I adore this film. What can u say? Steve Guttenberg was pretty good. The older actors were brilliant.
Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, Hume Croyn, Brian Dennehy, Jack Gilford, Maureen Stapleton, Jessica Tandy, Gwen Verdon, Herta Ware, Tahnee Welch. I bet you're wondering how I remembered all the names. Have to admit I do own a copy of this wonderful film & also have the second one too. I'm sure theres a few people out there who would love to find something which cures all their problems just by swimming in the same water with the cocoons.

Annette.

i really enjoyed watching this film, to see the old people start to feel good again was just great...peachy

I'm surprised not to see more written on this. I just saw Cocoon recently and it blew me away. I think it is better that I saw it at this time in my life, when I have spent a few years working in nursing homes. I have come to a greater appreciation of the aging process and what it means, and I felt able to relate to the characters.

I think this film is seriously underrated as a character study. To me, this is among the best that sci-fi can offer - it is a story about human nature, exploring issues surrounding our mortality using aliens as a backdrop and setting rather than the aliens being the central theme. The meat of the story is really about the old people and their attitudes and struggles with coming to terms with their lives.

I think I laughed through the first half and cried through the second half. It was very moving to me, and an enjoyable experience.

LOL, i remember this. I have it on DVD at home and i still haven't watched it. (That and Batteries not included.)

I really do loathe the Cocoon movies. I'm not sure quite why, but they always rub me up the wrong way whenever they're on. Same goes for Batteries Not Included. I guess I'm not big on saccharine sweet, overly sappy movies like these.

I loved Cocoon when it first came out (Steve Gutenberg plus scifi - what more could a geeky teenage girl want in the 80s?) and found it on the cheap fairly recently, so I bought it to see how it stood up these days. I have to say it was still very entertaining and I'm glad I watched it again. The oldies were great. Duchess, if you don't like American-sweet movies, you should really stay away from films like this. We wouldn't want you to choke. ;) Personally, while I wouldn't want to watch films like this all the time, I really enjoy it every so often. I think Kythe is onto something with the character study and mortality, though the sugar factor that the Duchess can't stand shouldn't be ignored. But if you're in the mood for something funny, sweet, and a little thoughtful, Cocoon will be right up your alley.
