A remote castle in Romania is the setting for thos novel of terror and suspense.

When the nazis take over a small town, they get more than they bargain for when they open up The Keep. The people of the village have been guarding The Keep for centuries to keep the evil it imprisons from getting loose.

Now two young people must battle this ultimate horror and try to return the darkness back to its prison.

This novel was made into a movie which was how I found this author and the book. It starred Scott Glenn and Ian McKellen and was directed by Michael Mann.

The movie stands on its own merits and the book is fascinating to read as well. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes horror or suspense novels.

Cheers,

i remember reading this book, a long time ago. it was great. haven't seen the film though, is it worth looking out for?...peachy

Yes the film is worth watching out for. If you can find a copy. I lost mine several years ago and haven't been able to get another one.

It is filmed rather well and really gets into the mood of the story.

Cheers,

Just did a search at Amazon and they do have it. They also list 2 in auction. I might just have to break down and spend some money. ;)

Cheers,

I read the book when it first came out and thought it was one of the best horror novels id ever read. The 1983 film version was a major letdown, A large part of the reason, studio meddling. I do know there were sequel books which I have not read and I they linked it the repairman Jack series also done by Wilson.

I am hoping that they do a remake of the film.

I didn't think the film was so bad. Some of the cinematography was quite well done and the score by Tangerine Dream added to the suspense. Jurgen Prochnow's role was quite good. I have a copy of the book, but have to confess to not having read it yet. So my comments could be considered as happening in a vacuum, I suppose.

But, for all that, I don't see a remake as viable 30 plus years after the fact even.

The novel is definitely worth reading . It's far better then then what we got on the big screen.

I remember not being able to get into the film when it came out, although there was 1 particularly gruesome scene that I've never forgotten. Might watch it if it was on the tube, just to see if my impression changes, but definitely won't go looking for it.

The film doesn't do justice to the book.

Wilson's Adversay series is very enjoyable. I've only read five books and I believe there is another three still to read.

I thought the film was ok with the movie score one of the best things about it. Now that I know that it is based on a book I will have to check out the novel.

It's a terrific read. One of my favorite books.(y) He did make it into a book series and he linked it with his repairman Jack series book 1 of that series is The Tomb:)

I would like to see them do a tv series based on The Keep.(y)
