I think Duncan is a more "good" guy than Conner, and his strong sense of morality/chivalry is a common thread in the series... Conner has more of an edge, he'll do what's needed to get done what needs doing...

Connor's been at it longer than Duncan. It's possible that this is the reason you see an edge to him that Duncan doesn't have right now. Also because Connor became immortal at a different time in history. I don't know that much about the history of the time so really couldn't say about that.

There is also the way they were both introduced into the Game. Ramirez sought out Connor and taught him everything he needed to know. Connor sought out Duncan and taught him possibly a little differently because they were kinsmen.

I think Connor is a little more realistic about the Game than Duncan. Afterall Duncan tried to hide from it twice that I know of whereas Connor seemed to try to meet it head on and get it over with. I think Connor always felt incredibly cheated out of life since he was immortal and had fallen in love before he found out about it or the consequences of it.

Cheers,

Its true I don't think that Duncan had so many ties to his "mortal" life, he certainly didn't have anyone that he's watched grow old and die like Conner and Heather.

Duncan has tried to hide from the game at times, like the hold island he has retreated to, and the fact that at hte start of the tv series, he is living as a mortal with Tessa, and did not want to be brought back into the "game".

I've split this thread since we kind of got off track. ;)

The one thing that is kind of interesting to see is how both Connor and Duncan have approached immortality and The Game.

As I said, Conner might be a little more realistic about it and its affects on their lives whereas Duncan, at times, seems to be in denial about it. (Except to tell Tess that he is immortal, but not about what it really means.)

Cheers,

Personally, i feel that Connor has a more realistic approach to most things -- he has a sense of morality - he just doesn't apply it to 'The Game' the way Duncan does -- (Duncan's a boyscout) -- Connor seeks out fights, where Duncan waits for ppl to come to him ---

not that Connor is a headhunter in the 'true' sense of the word - he just is a bit more aggressive --

tho - Duncan was much more of a fighter before he met Darius and Sean Burns -- he 'mellowed' out after he met them --

i don't think Connor ever met anyone like those men - Kastagir is about the only friend we ever hear anything about from Connor --

Marriage is another topic -- Connor was married a couple times (something like 4 if you count all the movies) and Duncan can never quite figure out how one is to court and keep a wife -- the closest he came was Tessa -- and she was shot right after he asked her --

other thoughts on that topic??

Highlander II

Actually, they're kind of like two separate sides of the same coin... specifically as far as The Game was concerned... Connor was more of a "let's beat the snot out of the guy until he makes a mistake" type, while Duncan was more of "let's wait until the guy makes a mistake, then blitz him" type, particularly with regards to their fighting styles...

they are to a degree --

but, i guess your opinion of their fighting styles will be dramatically affected by your opinion of the 2 men -

i really like Duncan in the 1st 3 seasons or so -- but then something happened and he changed (course, this could have a lot to do w/ the writers too - dunno all the details)

but, i loved Connor from the very beginning -- ( a friend got me hooked on Highlander and i've been a fan ever since )

he's my all-time fave -- tho he's tied w/ Methos -- :D

it does seem that they are similar and yet very different at the same time...Conner has had a rougher life, but also had more emotional attachments, his love for Heather is still as strong in the modern day as the day they met.. Duncan has never had that kind of relationship as you say HII, to watch her grow old and die, it must have a huge impact..

I do like Duncan though..i agree with the boy scout analysis to a degree, but its mainly because with the TV show, they needed a "good guy" to fight off the "bad" immortals who came along each week, whereas i nthe original film, Conner knew the end was upon him, so the attitudes were a little different...

k - i'm gonna toss this -- i think the main reason that i like Connor better is b/c i like Christopher Lambert - i don't really like Adrian Paul - so, i have a hard time liking his character --- (usually my strong dislike comes across as a reason to have a disagreement - it's just more fun that way -- arguing which is the better MacLeod --- gotta have fun!!)

i will say - that i think it's good that Connor and Duncan are different, if they had made the series w/ a Connor- clone - it wouldn't have been as good - the characters need to be different or the 'stickler' movie fans would have been terribly upset ---

i like Adrian Paul, i've only seen him in highlander tho, dunno what else he's done... i think Highlander is one of the reasons i've grown my hair so long ;) :D

don't bother watching him in anything else - he's not good - he can only really be Duncan MacLeod - he doesn't have the depth that Chris has -- he's bland as far as actors go -- he doesn't do well as any other character --

he's alright through about season3 - then something happens and they start writing Duncan all funky or something -- not sure exactly what happened --

very funny markpud --- no - it's not Methos -- or maybe it is Methos - Methos is just so laid back that Duncan has to overcompensate by being extra boyscout - dunno - gotta go back and watch Highlander again -- (been on a Stargate kick lately)

see, i knew it was all M's fault :D (i wish i could watch some highlander series :( i think i have the S4 finale on a tape somwhere...)

awwwwww --

you really need to get some Highlander ----

well - i suppose you could rent/buy/watch Endgame - however - it sucks --

should we start a poll - who's the best Highlander - Connor or Duncan??????

Conner is a lot better than Duncan. That's an opinion of course, but I think Duncan is mostly just plain annoying. He so goody two shoe's that it's pathetic.
