Knivesout no more
I was chatting with my friend Kanika and we started imagining what it would be like to eat planets...
Swallowing the Solar System
Mercury was fiery but with a trace of mint
Venus was sly and spicy, slippery and subtle
The Earth melted in my mouth in a confusion of flavours
Mars sobered me with ascetic blandness
The asteroid belt was crunchy but unsalted
Jupiter was immense and splendid; I was left bloated with grandiose gases
Saturn was much the same but thoughtfully ringed with soothing antacids
Uranus and Neptune were cold and hard but with deep veins of taste and aroma in their centres
Which left me with Pluto, delectable desert on my dish
But greedy now I sail forth to the Oort
To consume the comets in their cradles
Perhaps when I am done I shall plunge back to the centre for a last fiery snack
