Although I love Anne's work dearly (I own a hardback of every book I can find), I think this series ranks at the top. There's so much to adore about singing...one can even come to like the prospect of MINING! LOL :)

[sigh] It's just so HARD to make a decision on which ONE book or series is the best. Pern, Ballybran, the Talents, the B/B ships... ARGH

I admire the woman's talents greatly and, as I said, LOVE her work!!!

Yeah, I like them all. However, I have only read 'The Crystal Singer' of that series, as I haven't been able to find the rest. Do you know if it's still possible to buy them all?
Talents is also good, have you read 'Pegasus in Space'?
I read 'Talents' before 'Tower and the Hive', which do you prefer?
Too many questions....sorry.

questions...

are always good!

You could check online at places like Half.com (http://www.half.com) where people sell their old books. You could also check out Amazon.com in both the brand new section and the Rare & Used books section.

Yep, I've read all her scifi - that I could find, of course! There are a couple of anthologies that are difficult to get hold of...when I have the $$ for it! ;)

With the Talents series, it's really hard for me to decide which I like better. I really like them all...which is why I have them all.

Thanks. If in anthologies you mean stuff like 'Get off the Unicorn', then that I have, but only because I got it from an Oxfam bookshop that people give second-hand books to.

Once you find a series you like, you (well I) just can't help spending most money on them. I buy books like most people my age buy music. i.e I bought two books and a tape from a SF bookshop all at once. That's loads for me as I like to save money.

right

I was also referring to Alcheme and Academe, which I've read ONCE and never found again. I suspect someone lifted it from the library. :(

Ah well...when I have money again (we're working on that), I'll be able to get the few books of hers that I don't have! :)

Uh-huh. Seems like its not having the money, its having all the books you've wanted for ages after you've spent it!
Have you read the latest Pern book? It's out in hardback in the UK, but I don't have the money right away. I'd like to see what it's like, after I loved 'All the Wyers', but I'm not sure. If you've read it, is it any good.

No, actually, I haven't even *seen* it out here! :( Well, I've been shopping, but not at bookstores.

About that money thing...it's a real roller coaster around here. Either we *have* money and live decently or we are living from moment to moment, wondering if we'll be able to pay the utility bills before they're disconnected. :( Right now, we have it, so I'll be shopping for that new book when I need a break from shifting clutter... :innocent look:

I really liked the first Crystal Singer novel, the second one--Killashandra--wasn't quite as good, and the third one--Crystal Line --was worse than that. Somehow, Ms. McCaffrey managed to make singing and mining exciting in that first book, though, and I also enjoyed the romance elements. Killashandra Ree is a very compelling character, and everything she did in that first novel (and parts of the second)--both thrilling and mundane--was very exciting to me. That's the skill of a master author :D. Also, Ms. McCaffrey described beautiful landscapes and spacescapes, as well as buildings and vehicles. I highly recommend that anyone who's interested read the first two books, since you won't be disappointed.
