I love Battlestar Gallactica. The film and later the series. Specially love Dirk Benedict(Starbuck) and
Richard Hatch(Apollo). It was one of my favorites series of all times. Hear that there are plans to
make a new Battlestar Gallactica. Sound like a great idea. In the meantime check this url
http://www.battlestargalactica.com/ . A great site with news about the new plans and of the old.

This is the movie database URL for Battlestar Galactica (1978):

http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0077215

There are actually two new films currently on the starting blocks, with a court battle going on to decide the outcome.
The TV series was OK. Sentimental stuff with cute kids and a furry robot. The Cylons were never threatening enough, not even for kids. Count Baltar was a very evil baddie though.

battlestar galattica was one of my favs as well just loved those two guys apollo, and starbuck...peachy

Yes, I know the Cyclons weren't a very threatening enemy but I really enjoy the red light moving in their faces.
 Yes, Baltar was a very  man, also love Lucifer as his second.

Well, Peachy, let's hope they revive it. It will be interesting to see how they present it in this modern times with all the great special effects etc. :)

Hey David676, what is this about the court battle?

I really liked this one. Of course the TV series started out strong and went downhill. Another case of the network interfering in a scifi show.

I have also heard something about this court battle. Richard Hatch wrote one script. I don't exactly remember who wrote the other script but it was suppose to be sanctioned by whoever it is that has the rights to the show or something like that. Not sure I have all the facts straight.

Re: Court battle over rights.

I did a little bit of digging and I found this.

It looks as if Richard Hatch lost his court battle.
That's a pity beacause there could have been room for both versions!

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to quickly comment on the latest news concerning Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto. First of all I'm elated that two such talented and passionate artists have decided to bring this beloved show back to the world. What a wonderful surprise that someone of their stature in the industry seems to understand what all of you fans out in the world have always understood and have been screaming at the studios for years. Battlestar Galactica is truly a sleeping giant and I'm sure under their guidance--and with your support--will finally achieve the level of success that such a wonderful story deserves.

I just read an article from Tom DeSanto at http://www.fandom.com. I was very pleased to find out that Tom and Bryan have a genuine love for the show and that they care about the fans and preserving the integrity of the show. I have no idea what they have in mind, but I feel that we should all support them in their quest and give them time to develop their own unique vision. If my team had been given the chance to produce Battlestar Galactica I would have asked for the same courtesy. No one knows more than me that they're many ways to bring back Battlestar Galactica and that their are many talented and gifted individuals with a wonderful vision for Battlestar Galactica. My group came together because no one seemed to understand this shows potential, or vast and diverse fan base.

We also wanted to remind the industry that Battlestar Galactica was not only a success in the beginning, but under the right conditions and leadership, could become one of the most entertaining, moving and successful franchises in Universal's history. Additionally, we wanted to lay out a vision for the show that would honor the original characters and premise of the show, and at the same time, build a bridge to the future with a whole new generation born in space. Our trailer took all of this into account and the response was overwhelmingly positive. However Tom and Bryan are entitled to their vision for the show. I have always respected any creators' right to explore their own, unique ideas.

I believe that the fans' job is to share opinions and give honest feedback. Hopefully the new producers will be open to listening and taking them all into account. My position is to give Tom and Bryan the respect they are due--and to share insights and opinions only if asked. No one likes to be second-guessed. I'm sure they will have to contend with more than their share of creative challenges and adversarial opinions.

Just a few last words before I go. These past few years have taught me that anything is possible if you are willing to jump into the fire and commit yourself to what you believe. It also taught me to appreciate and respect not only the fans who keep the flame alive, but the producers, directors, writers and craftsmen that have the courage to bring their creative vision to fruition. It takes guts to keep going when no one believes in what you are doing.

I also want to thank the fans for supporting our team's efforts these past several years. The new Battlestar Galactica trailer that we put together with the love and support of many fans and industry professions was a miracle in the making. The standing ovations around the world for our efforts have more than justified the tremendous effort that went into developing and completing our trailer. I will always support Battlestar Galactica and BattlestarGalactica.com will always reflect the fans' opinions and creative ideas. Remember, Battlestar Galactica belongs to you--and your belief and passion for this show have kept it alive these past 20+ years. You have also made it possible for this show to finally come back. Don't forget that! I take my hat off to all of you.

By the way, the third book of my Battlestar Galactica trilogy is finally being completed and will be out shortly. I'm also looking forward to seeing all of you again this year as I will be traveling all over the world, promoting the book, playing a new and updated Battlestar Galactica trailer, plus showing you the new Great War of Magellan trailer/project that my team has been working on for the last 14 months.

Once again, congratulations to Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer and also to Glen Larson. I'm sure that he must be excited to have their creative talents bringing his show back to life. I know Glen thinks that I have tried to steal his show, but the truth is, I have always believed in his story and have only wanted to honor and give life to his original premise and wonderful characters.

All my love,
Richard Hatch>>

Yes, I agree. It would be good to see the two versions.
Hope all works well with the new version. As for me
have to look for the book :) . I really hope everything
gets ok with the new Galactica, I'm sure will see it. ;)

It's a shame that Richard Hatch couldn't bring his idea to fruition. I feel like his version would be more loyal to the characters we knew. (My favorite was Starbuck, I had such a crush :D)

Well for me he was like the Brad Pitt of that years. Love him also in the A-Team. ;) So I totally understand you. Love his smile. As for the version of Richard, yes you have a good point. He was part of it so he have to be more familiar with the characters, the story and what they were trying to bring. And anyway, the fans probably will support more something coming from him.

From: <www.battlestargalactica.com> Mini series in 2003 on 'The Scifi Channel'

At the time of this writing, no official plot outlines are available for publication here.

On 22 February 2001, Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer ("The X-Men") announced, in conjunction with Studios USA (Vivendi Universal), plans to bring back Battlestar Galactica. [Note: Previous, separate production announcements by Richard Hatch in 1998 and Glen A. Larson in 1999 did not yield actual television shows or motion pictures.]

By September 2001 (the 23rd anniversary of the original show's debut), the Fox Network (U.S.) was taking interest in broadcasting the new Battlestar Galactica television series, starting with a 2-hour pilot episode. (An ongoing series may have been considered if the pilot episode ratings were strong enough.)

By November 2001, Bryan Singer left Battlestar Galactica to focus 100% on X2 ("The X-Men II") within Fox's film division. By December 2001, the Fox Network was no longer supportive and the Battlestar Galactica production offices closed their doors in Universal City, California.

On 2 April 2002, Sci-Fi Channel has announced a new Battlestar Galactica production team, leading to a planned 4-hour mini-series which "re-imagines" the show.

Sci-Fi Channel Discusses New Galactica
(2.April.02) From Variety: "A remake of the TV series "Battlestar Galactica" as a four-hour miniseries, the transformation of the mini "Firestarter: Rekindled" by Stephen King into an hourlong series and an animated sci-fi weekly half-hour based on the cult short film "Tripping the Rift": These were the highlights of the Sci-Fi Channel upfront presentation here April 2."

"We're making the most aggressive investment in original programming in our history," said Bonnie Hammer, president of Sci-Fi Channel.

Hammer said the impending takeover of Sci-Fi Channel by Vivendi Universal has already paid dividends with "Battlestar Galactica," which, Hammer said, is "one of Universal's library assets that we'll be able to re-imagine in miniseries form."

Battlestar Galactica shake-up at the Sci-Fi Channel
(2.April.02) According to Zap2It.com and Corona's Test Patterns site, the Sci-Fi Channel is opting for a NEW Battlestar Galactica production team, sans Tom DeSanto. (Confirmed with Mr. DeSanto this evening vy BattlestarGalactica.com, BattlestarFanClub.com and BattlestarPegasus.com.) The surprise announcement included the following details:

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which ``a rag, tag fugitive fleet'' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game).
