Okay, I need to know, is that threatening Actors/screenwriters strike going to affect Season 5?

Or do the fact they film in Canada does not affect the show's situation? Or if the producers and some leading actors (RDA & Chris) are American, does it affect?

It's been nearly 5weeks since the last new episode, still 13 weeks to go, I am in withdrawl! But at least we have a possible starting date, around the end of June. Of course, this is true if the strike doesn't affect the show. Does anybody out there know for sure?

Ack, there's two different threads with almost exactly the same name!

Don't know about SAG, but the Writer's Guild of Canada will be honoring the WGA strike if it happens.

too many abbreviations for me - their striking?!?!?!

Jaxie, yes, big time.

The WGA ( = Writer's Guild of America) is scheduled to go on strike on 5/1/01. As of today, there are no negotiations happening, and none planned. The Writer's Guild of Canada will walk out in supoprt.

The SAG ( = Screen Actors Guild) is scheduled to go on strike on 7/1/01. How that will affect television filming in Canada is unclear.

Issues are, of course, money. Residuals from video and DVD sales, overseas sales, and the practice of a network, i.e. SciFi, showing an episode on a second cable channel w/i 2 weeks (i.e., SciFi plays Invisible Man on SciFi Channel, and then about 8 days later it play on the USA network). Issues for the writers involve respect as well.

Updates on the strike status can be found on their respective web sites, www.sag.com, and www.wga.org, if anyone's curious.

FYI I'm not a member of either organization, but I live in LA. The strike is going to be devestation to the local economy, and so it's major news here.

i'm far from an expert but i THINK they've finished filming at least 3 or 4 eps of season 5, and since we have titles for the first 6 or so i think it's safe to say a script in some way exists for them...scripts will be what's effected by the writers strike.

however if the sag strikes, then it's the actors that don't work so taping grinds to a screaming halt...

but...if they have 3 or 4 in the can...it's POSSIBLE they can show those that are done and edited...the decision however rests solely with the production company
