Hi,

Just curious to know whether or not the Gatecon events have an MC. Stephen Franklin was the MC for Wolfcon last November in London and he was very good. If there is to be an MC and one has not been decided upon yet can I put in a vote for the elusive Garett Maggart who played Blair Sandburg in The Sentinel which is now being shown on the sci-fi channel. No idea if he would accept but I would love to see him there and given that a lot of Stargate fans are also fans of The Sentinel I doubt that I would be the only one.

Yes, there is a MC for gatecon.......

And you have his full and unabided attention..... Because it's ME !

We had discussed (very, very briefly) about getting a 'known' star to MC, but firstly we saw that as a waste of money (because you have to pay them)... and why would you want someone from another television series MC'ing when it is a Stargate convention...... It just doesn't make sence.

The whole idea of a convention is not who's announding it... But who's coming to it.... The Stars, and the Fans.

Why detract from the reason of being there with someone from another show, that no one turned up to see.

As much as I like the Sentinel... If you want to see Blair... Go to a Sentinel convention.

I'm sorry if that sounds a little rude... I didn't mean to be.... I'm just making the point that we don't need to pay a big name (non stargate) star to MC just so we can sell a few more tickets.

And if you were there last year, you would have seen how much of a blast we (and especially I) had.

I think people actually had fun seeing a nobody Aussie Tok'ra as an MC.... They liked it... They had fun.... I had fun....

And isn't that what it's all about.... Having fun

Asking is good !!! :D

I think the stars feel a little more relaxed that way as well..... Especially if they see the enthusiasm that goes into putting something like this on...

They seem to appreciate it more also... I think they would rather see someone out there and 'giving it a go', and seeing the enjoyment they get from it.

It would just be 'a job' to another star doing it.... unless they really loved the show.

Hi Allen,

I know you said sorry for maybe being rude, but you were rude. A star from another show can be a fan of Stargate just as much as the next man. Samuel Jackson was in Epsiode One not because he needed the work but because he would kill to be in Star Wars he's a fan your a fan im a fan

I am sure you enjoy being the MC and do a great job but sometimes a person with stage presence can add a little to an event. By this I an actor will always come over different to you or me.

Well there's my 2 cents hopefully taken in good spirts.

Wolf

Always taken in good spirits :p

I was mainly referencing the fact that just getting a star to MC because of his/her 'Name' with the possible hope of selling more tickets to a convention would be wrong.

But there are 'stars' out there that are genuine fans of Stargate, and as long as they were there to promote Stargate and not themselves, that would be fine.

I just see things like this (being a Stargate convention organiser) as a conflict of interest... And if I ever came to the situation of needing to hire a star to MC, I would choose someone who did a cameo or a special appearence on the show.... Alan Rachins for example (Colonel Kennedy in SG-1... Darma and Greg). That way it would still have a Stargate flavour.
