Okay i'm trying to write fanfic. And have a question on the sarcophagus. Is there a time limit to when it stops working. ie if a person has been dead for like 2/3 yrs would it still work?? How about 6 months?

Any thoughts, comments, actual answers would be appreciated.

Thanks
Maria

I don't think there have been many trials with the sarc after a few days. But I don't see why you couldn't have a gap... but as you I am not sure how long a one. I don't know about the degeneration of the body but I think I would be more difficult to resurrect a person after time has passed or the System Lords would jump on it for great hosts..... just my opinion, however!

Yeah, I have to agree, once the body starts to decompose, either internally or externally... I'd say bout 24 hours... God, I feel like I'm delivering a death sentence!

well you killed my fan fic so yeah you could say you delivered a death sentence! :D

Aaahhh, I'm sorry! Couldn't you like, write that [the dead person] was taken thru the SG to a sarc, and there was a solar flare, (1969), and they landed on the planet like ... whatever's a convienient time ago?

Cool idea! Kelsi.

Go on Maria whatdoya say? Please? right it for me

nope sorry the 'take throught the gate' idea won't work for this dead person. But don't worry i'm still gonna write the fic (eventually) I'll just say they up graded the sarc. Hey it's Goa'uld tech.....anything is possible!

Can't there be a stasis imposed on the dead body? Like the one that held Hathor for so long?

[I am sorting reading between the un-written lines they are going to find a relatively "long-dead" body they need to revive, so my idea won't work anyway]

If not, you are almost in the territory of a new Goa'uld, Nox, Tollan or Ancients device: a genetic replicator, (similar to The Fifth Element film, or even Alien Resurrection): which could bring back the body and the symbiont.

Thanks for the ideas.

you're right, the statis thing isn't gonna work, but i'll think about some of the other suggestions.

Since clothes and other items aren't affected, and as far as I know no one else has offered a full explanation in the series as to how it works, maybe you could explain it as doing something like taking a DNA sample, determining the age of the body by computer evaluation of the DNA and comparing it against the body's "state" and then reconstructing/repairing the body as it sees fit.

When Daniel went into the sarc in Need he no longer needed glasses, so it apparently can heal other things such as aging or health problems caused by drugs or whatever. Since it allows people to live longer than they normally would (once again, in Need, Pyrus the ruler was over 700 years old) the DNA extrapolation would seem to be a valid explanation. It didn't make Pyrus appear younger but kept his body at it's original age while reversing aging effects.

i think the sarcophagus works by speeding up the regeneration of human cells. if a body was overly decomposed, you might get the body back, but the neural pathways n the brain (memory, personality) would be gone.
i read about the neural pathways thing somewhere. don't remember where.

Your body I'm assuming is going to be left somewhere for quite a while. So why not say something about the environment it's lying in? "The desert is actually an old, dried-up sea, and the salt left behind sunk into the sand, making the perfect preservative."

As Daniel knows all too well, tissue which is blasted, burned and destroyed can be totally re-built with nothing even scars remaining. Have we seen examples of a sarcophagus being used to regenerate entire limbs, for example? Conversely, it definitely brings people back from the dead, even after the entire aging process occurring to a body after the death of the symbiote ["Serpent's Song"], which must be a significant detrimentation to the cells and tissues.

after a goa'uld dies it is quickly absorbed into the hosts body so how did sokar manage to revive apophis after his symbiot had died.

someone earlier said that a possible lengh of time before the sarcophagos could not be used was 24 hours. hoiw long was it before sokar revied apophis?

We know that Apophis was returned to Sokar within a single wormhole's (38 minutes) duration of dying. So, with Sokar's knowledge of symbiote biology and its absorption on death, he would know he had to revive him fast. And could have basically done so within an hour of death. Certainly fast enough?
