Whats this about a movie is that going to have people like bashir and sisko in it.

Some rumours on the Internet have speculated that DS9 and Voyager characters may have cameo appearences in the upcoming film Star Trek X. None of that is confirmed by anyone, but there were cameo appearences in the last film.

Someone told me that they were making a DS9 movie, but I offered to eat my computer mouse if they even started that before finishing the script of Star Trek X, and I think my digestive system is still safe!

All the rumours about ST:X that I find I will post in that thread in the TNG discussion forum.

thanks

Thank you Dave I will look forward to reading them.

I would like to see a DS9 movie..... but very much doubt it will happen.. there was talk to samuel jackson staring as sisko... hope this is not true

Did they not destroy the set of DS9. I kinda got from that, that there probably wouldn't be a movie. Could be wrong. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

They did destroy the set of DS9. They've already pulled down Voyager!! But on a movie budget, I don't think that would be an obstacle, they could rebuild it. Also CGI means that they can fill in bits that aren't there from old images. Most of the 'Star Wars: Episode I' sets stopped at head height, the rest was CGI.

well i certainly agree with u there Dave... on a movie budget everything is bigger and better...

So no problem with rebuilding a movie set

If/when they do a movie, they'll need to rebuild the sets and resew the costumes regardless of if they old ones are still around because the detail needs to be finer. When you film for TV, you can get away cutting a few edges because most people's TV screens are small and don't pick up the fine detail. A movie screen, on the other hand, does. So either way they would be redone and that isn't an issue.

The issue is if the ST movie franchise survives based off ticket sales of ST:X... and if so, what they think the next best venture will be - DS9 or Voyager. Since it has been confirmed that the most recent film will be the final NG one.

Also, I doubt Samuel L. would take over the role of Sisko... there would be riots in the street if that happened... but I can see him getting a very big part in the DS9 film - if they ever do it - if he's interested.

Although the rumors now seem to imply a DS9 made for TV movie... has anyone else heard anything about this?

I can't see them going for a DS9 movie at all. If they have a choice between "Seven of Nine wears a skintight costume" and "Sisko has a spiritual journey" you know which one they will make.

I liked DS9, but most Star Trek fans never did, and still don't.

Even people like Ronald Moore have said "To be honest, I'm not rooting for another DS9 movie or mini-series or whatever. I think the show should be allowed to end it's story in our finale and then be left alone." Admittedly, he said that some time ago.

The thing about DS9 seems to be that people who were dedicated to it see it as the best series, but people who didn't watch it every week just couldn't follow it. There was enough of a continuation from episode to episode that it was confusing for a lot of people - unlike ST:TNG or ST:V which have mostly stand alone episodes.

Personally, I don't feel they've properly concluded DS9... even if they don't do a DS9 movie, it should be a part of a future film to give it a bit more closure.

The longer they leave it, the harder it will be to get the cast back together. They all have good careers, its not like the original series where they were all unemployed!

LOL! Very true Dave.... but most of them have mentioned the desire to return to DS9 in various interviews I have read with them... as recent as that Cinefantastique special done about the show.

So... you never know. At least some of them would come back for it...

Well i think they should defiantely bring back DS9 as a movie...

If there were a DS9 movie...

what would your script ideas be?

How would you bring back Odo or Sisko?

You could have a Founders story or a Prophets story, but complicated to incorporate both.

Is Gul Dukat definitely dead?

Pity, he was IMHO the best Star Trek villain ever!

What has happened to Cardassia?

What has happened to Bajor?

What happened to DS9 itself? Or to Terok Nor?

Are the O'Briens still married?

Grand Nagus Rom?

At some point in time, they have to go back and reveal these things. And do it before they all grow too old.

DS9 Future Lies In Books, Says Behr

Deep Space Nine executive producer Ira Steven Behr said recently that he wouldn't have to think twice about returning to the franchise to work on mores DS9.

"[I'd return] In a heartbeat, but the chances of them doing a Deep Space Nine movie are slim and none," Behr told TV Zone Magazine.

The actor went on to explain why he doesn't think the show will ever make it to a movie screen. "I think it came to make everyone just a little bit uncomfortable," he said. "It was a show that went off the boundaries of what was going to be allowed and not allowed in terms of the Star Trek franchise. I believe that the future lies in these books that I hear they are doing to continue it. I just think it's much easier to have the Enterprise back. To have a ship back. It's a lot safer. Deep Space Nine was a bold experiment. It did not have the ratings."

Though DS9 may not have impressed studio executives, the show was popular among those who worked on it. "We liked it! We wrote it for ourselves and we had a blast!," Behr laughed. "Not only was it the best of the [Star Trek] shows, it was also the one series that had no true resolution, in a sense. It needs some sort of movie to resolve it as they left it open-ended.

"We were lucky to do it. We were lucky to do it under the circumstances that we got to do it. It was really a long shot that they would leave us alone as much as they did leave us alone. Even Rick [Berman] at one point stepped back and basically said 'Well, you're going to do it whether I say yes or no anyway!' It was such a good experience and now it's over, it's still great."

Behr still keeps up with his old pals from the show. "I still talk to Star Trek magazines, Ron Moore just called me. I just spoke to Rene [Auberjonois]. Michael Piller just sent me his new pilot to look at, so I'm very much still connected."

Don't get me wrong, a DS9 movie would be great, but the continuation of the series in the books is just fine. Sisko, the O'Briens and Rom are all absent and they've brought in great replacements (Shar, Ro Laren, Tenmei, etc,.). So, in my opinion I think if they do a movie they should spend some of their money casting these characters.

Or even better, a Star Trek: New Frontier Movie? (any casting ideas?)
