Ok we now know what the direction is gonna be... but what direction would u take trek into the future....

I would take te trek series into a timeship format... travelling into the future and past... sucj great scope there for writers... and i would again have a female captain at the helm

What u think ???

If it were a timeship concept.............

Those were my ideas.

Do you mean if it were set post-Voyager?

I think they've decided to leave this for the films. But the stage is now wideopen for Gamma and Delta Quadrant exploration.

While at home enlargement of the Federation with the other Alpha and Beta Quadrant Superpowers takes place. It sounds a pretty unexciting place, all peace, love and understanding; and nothing new to explore.

Sounds pretty good dave,... U seem to be a true fan

What would you like to see then? You haven't said.

I would like to see a Star Trek XI film with a mixture of TNG, DS9 and Voyager characters, facing an invasion of the Alpha Quadrant by Species 8472.

Where to take the new 'Enterprise"

OK, Voyager left quite a few open ends, but no other ship can tie them up. Besides, the Romulans-That-Be have already decided where the 'new' Enterprise is going - back to the beginning. With that in mind, I believe I would cover a lot of the Federation's founding roots. The only thing we have so far is Cochrane's warp-speed nuclear ride and the resulting conversation with the Vulcans. Everything else is in books, which most don't consider to be 'fact'. So, a lot of the Federation's history can be covered with Enterprise, along with several other 'firsts' in Trek. One thing though: So much 'history' has been written into TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager that a lot of research will have to go into it before putting it onto the screen.

Another thing about Enterprise: The ship should look a bit better than Cochrane's rocket, but less intricate than Kirk's hotrod. From what I've seen, it looks like an overhauled 'B' - far above what they should have.

I think it will be interesting to see how the bigshots work around all this stuff....

Thanks for that KDogg... very interesting.. I think they will have to think long and hard before doing anything....

Dawson is directing a few episodes so who knows

Pointers for Star Trek Enterprise

One of the things that makes TOS the BEST Star Trek series is that it did not suffer from the customary convention of contemporary television series where equal amounts of attention have to be given to each cast member. (Sure. I realize that Dr. Crusher in TNG and others on the other shows may not have had the attention Worf and Data received but they still had more screen time than say Uhura or Sulu. We still don't even know Uhura's first name!)
TOS had THREE principal chartacters and the focus was alost exclusively on those three with of course the lion's share going to Captain Kirk.
I recomment that Enterprise follow this pattern My reasons are as follows:
1) Your hero, Captain Archer, will have ample opportunity to be fleshed out (unlike the two-dimensional Janeway) and your hero will also not be continually diminished by having his ship or himself be saved by his underlings. I know Kirk relied alot on Spock and Scotty but how many episodes did Picard look blankly at his own crew and say, "I'm open to suggestions." Picard and the Enterprise-D would be doomed many times over were it not for Data and Geordi.
2) Secondary characters are secondary because it is the main character and possibly his two immediate co-stars who are most interesting. Take the case of TNG which became the Worf And DAta Show after season three. How could Picard and even worse poor Riker compete with the android Data and the Wolverine-like Worf? Don't allow your hero to be diminished by making the supporting cast more interesting than he is. This too will diminish him.
3) Ensemble shows tend to dwell on a lot of trivial nonsense. Don't talk to me about character development. Episodes revolving around Odo and Kira dating or The Doctor's singing lessons are just boring. Star Trek is about the awesome possibilities of space. It should not muddle through the absurd mediocrity of the Doctor's holographic son hanging out with a bad crowd of klingon kids.
Keep your auxillary cast as sitting heads at their panel. Give Captain Archer two close companions ala Bones and Spock. I recommend T'Pal and Major Reed as Archer's immediate co-stars. Everyone else should be used as necessary. I like Sulu but largely it is because I did not get entire episodes devoted to his boring life like I did with Geordi LaForge, Dr. Bashir, or Chakotay. Under-exposure will make your secondary cast interesting. Let the audience make their own assumptions about these people and how they lives go when they aren't serving Captain Archer.

Re: Pointers for Star Trek Enterprise

You made such a lot of sweeping statements there Neo, I just have to answer them.

Although I, personally, actually agree with you:

Do you realise that these are some of the most popular episodes?
So obviously many fans disagree!

That didn't diminish Picard. It made him a great leader. He was willing to listen, yet also had the complete respect of his crew.

I think you might get some more posts over this.

Well just tryingt o renerate some chat in here.... LOL... so far though no one else has commented

i dont feel that Picard was dimished at all...he was more of a one-man show at the beginning, but he built up a good team for his ship, and he knew he could rely on them.

Picard was strong but lost alot of ummmph in the series as the seasons went on... not he has made up for that in the movies

I think Picard stayed the same, it was Riker who improved. He had nothing to do in the early seasons except interupt and disagree with Picard. Later they started to write much better stuff for him-- 'Best of Both Worlds', 'Second Chances'.

i ahve to agree with Dave, I dont think Picard dimished at all, but Riker and others(worf, Data..) became stronger characters.

They never really delved into Rikers past... could of been interesting

There is quite a bit on Rikers past -- we know all the ships he served on, have seen his old Captain (Admiral Pressman), his relationship with his father, with Deanna Troi -- what else could we see? We even have his duplicate to contrast him with. IMHO his character has been fleshed out fully, but please tell me why you disagree.
