It looks like SciFi Wire is the place to go for these first:

Enterprise Uniforms Described

Some crew members on the upcoming fifth Star Trek series, Enterprise, will wear blue jumpsuit uniforms emblazoned with a starship shoulder patch, sources told SCI FI Wire. The Voyager-like jumpsuits are solid navy-colored with contrasting yoke and shoulder piping in colors designating status or ship's functions, and are completed with a black mock turtleneck, the sources said.

The left shoulder patches will feature a white-on-blue image of the titular starship, which resembles the original Enterprise, the sources said.

On May 14, construction crews were busy building sets on the Paramount Pictures lot in Los Angeles. The show was scheduled to begin shooting that day. The sources said some elements from the old Star Trek: Voyager sets may be incorporated in the new sets, but will likely be unrecognizable.

Enterprise pilot to be called "Broken Bow".

The first episode of Enterprise, the upcoming fifth Star Trek series, will be entitled "Broken Bow," sources told SCI FI Wire. The episode--which will shoot on the Paramount lot until June 19--will be directed by longtime Star Trek helmer James L. Conway, the sources said. The story concerns the crew's first encounter with Klingons.

SCI FI Wire also confirmed a report on the TrekWeb fan site that the character of T'Pau has been renamed, to T'Pol. The character had been thought to be the same as the Vulcan woman in the original series episode "Amok Time," but the renaming suggests that the character will be new. T'Pol is to be played by Jolene Blalock (Jason and the Argonauts), TrekWeb reported.

NEWS JUST IN

After 'Endgame' airs on Wednesday, fans will be faced with a long empty summer filled only with Voyager reruns. But thanks to UPN, that drought is going to be shortened by several weeks, as the network is planning to launch its new Fall season as early as August.

According to Zap2It, UPN said at Thursday's upfront meeting that it plans to start early to get a jump on the other networks, who generally start their new television seasons in the second or third week of September. The early August start is contingent on whether Hollywood will be able to avoid a strike by television actors, which would seriously delay Series V production.

This year, the season started two weeks late to avoid the Summer Olympics, though networks such as UPN and the WB then also debuted several shows early to provide some content for bored channel-surfers. By launching its shows early this season, UPN will be able to get some extra media attention for both Enterprise and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which will also premiere on UPN with a two-hour episode.

As expected, Enterprise will launch with a two-hour premiere, which UPN Entertainment President Tom Nunan said would launch with "one of the (network's) largest marketing campaigns ever."

In an effort to draw a wider audience than just the established Star Trek fans, Enterprise will launch without the words 'Star Trek' in its title. "Paramount felt it was no longer necessary," UPN president Dean Valentine explained. "Enterprise is synonymous with Star Trek."

In other Series V news, the Sci-Fi Wire reported that one of the tag lines Enterprise carries is "...back to where it all began." Previously, the tag line "The Final Frontier Has A New Beginning" had already been released.

Finally, Cinescape confirmed earlier reports that 'Broken Bow,' the Enterprise pilot, will see a Klingon ship crash landing on Earth. When the humans try to get him home, something doesn't go as planned, causing the start of Klingon-Human tensions. The site also confirmed that the Klingons will have bumpy foreheads, fitting in with Gene Roddenberry's statement that Klingons "were always intended to look that way, we just didn't have the budget for it back in the 60s."

There are about 5 or 6 threads around in different places called 'new star trek series V/5'.

What has a 1960's budget got to do with Klingon genetics anyway?

In some episodes of TOS (tribbles is one i can think of) the klingons didn't look like they do now - a la Worf. They looked like humans with brown make up over their faces.

Oh! We know all about that, Ooochy- can I call you that- terrible at spelling! That was the point I was making!

Have you seen 'Trials and tribbleations' DS9. Worf is asked directly about it and he replys that it's "something Klingons never talk about!"

Gene Roddenberry said that they were Klingons from the Northern Hemisphere of their planet, and Klingons from the Southern Hemisphere of their planet.

Phil Farrand, of 'The Nitpicker's guides for...' series of books, has a theory that a Klingon, who wanted to look tougher, experimented with a genetic modifying virus, but it went wrong, spread rapidly and eventually infected the whole Klingon race.

Stop lurking around there, come back and post again.

who is lurking.....

I wondered about the klingon face lift thing.. but just thought its the lack of face paint in the 60's ...

So you think it was a world-shortage shortage of brown make-up that was the cause?

Maybe, they just started thinking too hard, and got worry-lines?

Ooochywowa has been lurking. He obviously reads a lot of threads here, but has only posted 3 times. I'll go and welcome him properly.

mmmm hate peoiple who lurk..... lol... come on post some more tell us what ya really thinking

Sorry Ooochywowa.

There is already a welcome thread for him, and he says that he wants to post lots more, so I take back the Lurker thing.

And Neo, you obviously, aren't a lurker, we can't keep you quiet.

i like the n/s hemisphere thing.. maybe the northies were the dominant ones in TOS time, but by hte time of the 1st movie, they started interbreeding with teh southies, and the south genetic code took over eventually, explaining why the ridges get bigger from ST:TMP to ST:TNG...

UPN Press Release

In order to present the press with some basic information on its Fall programming, UPN recently sent out media kits containing fact sheets on all of next year's television shows. While most of the info already appeared online over the past month, the sheets did contain some interesting info bits on several of next year's UPN sci-fi shows.Jeff 'Koganuts' Koga was able to obtain one of the Fall 2001-2002 press kits, and was kind enough to send in scans of the cover and of several of the sci-fi fact sheets. All the sheets contained a brief description of the shows, a listing of the producers and the production company, and a promotional image.
While most sheets contained photos of the cast or of the lead actor, for Enterprise such a photo did not yet exist at the time the press kit was created. Instead, UPN included the image shown to the left, featuring a blurry image of what looks to be some sort of corridor. Placed on top of the image are the Enterprise logo and the 'Back To Where It All Began' tagline. (Click on the image to see the full fact sheet.)
The promotional description for the show described it as "bridging the gap between today's world and that of the original Star Trek," and said it would be "sure to excite the show's enourmous fan base."
"Set early in the 22nd Century, Enterprise focuses on a history of the galactic upheaval that leads to the formation of the Federation," the sheet read. "Its compelling stories of team bravery and individual heroism are sure to answer countless questions for both die-hard fans of the series and neophytes to the Star Trek universe. [...] Starring a fresh young cast, this exciting new chapter continues to push the edge of the visual envelope with the kind of state of the art special effects that have made Star Trek a global phenomenon. "
"Through their struggles, humans and Vulcans, and numerous others, together will learn to work and live in harmony," the sheet continued, before ending with a rather cryptic closing sentence. "Like their forefathers before them, they strive for a better life and boldly go where no one has gone before!"

Starship Design

John Eaves is the man responsible for the design of the next Star Trek starship, the titular Enterprise of Series V. Interviewed at the WonderFest Convention in Kentucky, he revealed a few tantalising details about his work for the new Trek series.
"From where I'm at work on the show, the story is brilliant. I think the series is going to be really good," he told the LCARS Computer Network.
Eaves said the new ship would be smaller than Kirk's Enterprise, but added that the final design is still being worked on. He hinted that fans of the Akira class ship, last seen in 'Star Trek: First Contact' will be pleased with his final design. As for the uniforms and make-up, "Bob Blackman is doing the uniforms, which he always has. Mike Westmore is doing the makeup. And both their magic is shining like it always does. They have no trouble coming up with what's going to be perfect for that time, yet pull to what Star Trek is supposed to be."
As senior illustrator for the show, Eaves will largley be responsible for the look and feel of much of the technology in the series. "The look of the show is, I think, is Star Trek, but it's not," he commented. "The stories I think are a lot more along the lines of what the old show and TNG used to be. More high adventure as opposed to, like a political theme that is turned into a sci-fi show, which a lot of [Deep Space Nine] would be, kind of current events turned into a show for sake of vested interest. And this is more definitely a high adventure show, where it's going to go."
"It's mostly exteriors that we're having trouble with," he said. "Interiors went pretty well, the bridge through went quick, the corridors, all that look in turn all the look of the Enterprise is definitely retro before Kirk, but to today's standard of what good design would be."
Fans who are worried about "backward continuity" in the new series should be comforted by Eaves' words about how Enterprise will fit into the Star Trek time line. "It's going to be probably the introductory ground for what we know as Captain Kirk's Star Trek and I think everything from his time will be discovered or planned through out the length of the series. It seems that's what they want to do with it."

its good to know they're paying attention to the timeline, but i'd be surprised if there isnt at least one continuity error that sneaks in somewhere along the line, unless they hire Dave to keep them in check ;)

Well you certainly got that right.... DAves the man

Actually, it was Dorothy C Fontana who kept them in check in TOS and the first few seasons of TNG. She main it her mission, and it has paid off. They still have people who care about these things such as Michael and Denise Okuda, but I agree with you that it will be extremely hard, given the tight time frames that they work on, not to make some mistakes. They should hire someone with total authority to make changes to the script, just to look out for them alone.

Maybe I should send in my CV?
