Ok looking through all the threads on the trek forum i have found that Wesley name is mentioned quite a few times... and mostly in a horrible way....

I must admit in the beginning I disliked the obnoxious whiny charactor of Wesley Crusher.

But as he developed and his feelings and history became more evident I changed my opinion.
Every show has to have a charactor you love to hate and I think for TNG it was Wesley ...LOL!!!!

aarrrhhhh bless.... i love him

yeah he annoyed me too.

i mean the guys works his entire life to get into starfleet and THEN decides it's not what he wants!! And this whole 'way smarter' thing works A LOT better with daniel!

BTW Neo, another one you love??

i dotn like him as much as picard / sisko etc...

hehe

Now ya know ...I just knew that <snicker>

I could feeeeel the love

I voted yes, not because he was a kid (the Enterprise-D was meant to be full of them, only Wesley and Alexander were the only ones that we got to see.)

And not because he was precocious.

It's just that it got to the stage where he single-handedly saved the ship every week. All these experienced best of the best Starfleet officers but an early teen saves them from themselves again. And then other times he did some stupid things even for a teenager. Some of the times he saved the ship it was his fault anyway.

And on the subject, who is in charge of the Health and Safety assessments of these 24th Century school science projects?

While teachers not looking we'll put this gagh in his tea, and these nanites down Data's back.

There are some real reasons to do with the script, why Wesley was an unlikeable character though. He was never portrayed as a normal teenager with normal teenage problems. I said there were supposed to be other teenagers on board, but where were they, he didn't hang out with them. Instead, he did his homework and was respectful to his mother. He was too smart, and he was allowed to brag about it too much for his own good.

Given that the Enterprise is filled with Starfleet's best and brightest members, Wesley Crusher, who has difficulty even getting in to Starfleet Academy, comes up with the solution to this weeks problem SEVEN times:

He changes the tractor beam to a repulser beam in 'The Naked Now'.
He points out the similarity of wave forms in 'The Battle'.
He fixes the holodeck in 'The Big Goodbye'.
He figures out they could use a neutrino pulse to contact La Forge in 'The Enemy'.
He makes the crucial connection to yhe Elway Theorum in 'The High Ground'.
He recognizes Riker's signal in 'Menage a Troi'.
He notes the game's addictive nature in 'The Game'.

I quite liked Mr Crusher. Didn't like the way he looked in the early epps but liked him as the'older boy'.

I also enjoyed the episode 'The Game'. I thought he was quite the little genius in it along with the 'girl-friend'.

I also rate 'The Game'. Funny that, because most fans don't like that one, especially the rabid Wesley-haters.

The fifth season episode 'The First Duty', when Wesley was involved in a cover-up and only confessed after being confronted by Picard, was better written. He seemed like a real person at last, and not just the kid.

The seventh season episode 'Journey's End' I still don't understand. He went off with the Traveller -- but has he become a Traveller himself? Does he still visit Mom?

I assumed he did go with the Traveller. I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to ol'Wes.

Not at first, but...

After a while, the "Wes saves the Enterprise" stories just kept getting silly. Ok, you can argue that he was supposed to be a boy genius, but he did not have any Starfleet training. You've got these command officers who have gone through the Academy and have years of experience. Any of them could easily have come up with Wesley's solutions, it just didn't suit the writers' needs.
