Does anyone know what rank Janet is in the air force.
I have read in one of the SG1 books that she is a captin.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I have never heard anyone call her by her rank only Dr.

Thanks

Pam:rolly2:

Will "doctor" not equate to a rank in itself? In the same way a chaplain might - and I don't imagine they would necessarily want to be ranked.

Hi!
Yes, In many ways Janet needs the title Doctor more than her rank which was upgraded from captain to major in the third season (?). The doctor rank gives her permission to remove people from duty or hold people in the infirmary or recomend another facility and the commanding officers will listen to her before they listen to Hammond. She can even remove the General from active duty for medical reasons.

Even chaplins and rabbi's have rank in the military. I knew several that had the rank of captain and even met a major rabbi who we teased unmercifily.

I guessed her education (as for priests of any religion) would inherently lend itself to officer-ship. I will have to re-watch Season 3! (unless it is in the last two episodes in which case I will wait till released in UK).

The thing is that near the end of season three she seems to have gotten higher rank and it doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere except the rank pins on her shoulders or medical uniform change. It seems to be a subtle thing.

Sounds like I am going to have to learn US rank insignia! :p

Yeah me too;)

But thanks for all the info guys!

Pam

She had the rank of Captain throughout season 1 & 2 and was promoted some unknown time in Season 3 after Seth you can also tell by the rank ensignia on her uniform going up

in foothold she was clearly a captain...then in crystal skull she was a major...and her shoulders were covered in every eps in between so there is no clear point when she was promoted.

i believe doctors are automatically entered into the military as a lt. at least...everyone in mash was a captain so maybe it's capt.
they're given higher rank in deference to their education.
sam likely started as a lt. given her doctorate.

generally speaking,

one yellow bar, second lt
1 silver bar, 1st lt
two bars captain
little 5 pointed gold cluster...major
little 5 pointed silver cluster...lt. colonel
silver eagle...colonel
1 star. brig. general
2 stars...major general
3 stars...lt. general
4 stars...general

the enlisted stuff is way confusing sorry

Thanks, Trivia Goddess! We needed that information! I just did not remember when she got promoted... now I know why!

Hehe! I was in the DurhamLightInfantry forr 1 1/2 years and I never even worked out the UK army ranks let alone the US airforce!!:D :D

One thing I know for certain though:

Doc Fraiser is a good character and she should get a few more lines!

Yeah I agree with that one I really like the Doc.
I think that they have plans to explore Janet's and Sam's friendship in season five so that should be good!
:p

Education is the new money
In years of yore, money would buy you, or your son(!), a rank of officer in "your" home regiment. These days, a degree tends to have the same effect: you get to go in as an officer, which starts at about Lieutenant. Doctors, chaplains etc., will essentially come under the same principle - they are peope you want the fodder to look up to and if necessary obey without question.

"Let us pray", "Sir, yes sir!" :freak4:

LOLLOL! Sounds as if class and education are going hand in hand!

i'd never really thopught about it much so thanx for the info people

i know we're talkin' about the good doctor's rank here - but maybe you all can answer another Janet Fraser question for me -

remember in the ep Hathor - she mentions her husband? any ideas about sed husband? is he an ex, current, deceased husband? any clues (these are the little plot points i sometimes miss - not on purpose - just focused on other things during the show) -- just asking b/c he's never mentioned again -- and i'm beginning to formulate an idea for a fic, so i'm in need of some info --

thanx!!!!

hidy!! :)

that was my opinion too -- the line she said was "My husband said...." meaning that she doesn't hear it from him anymore - but i was thinking he could also be deceased - tho if that was the case - ie: he was KIA - she'd talk about him more -- so, i think ex- is probably correct --

thanx!!!!!
