Help! I'm stuck in the forums!
Has anyone read 'A Secret History' by Mary Gentle? I've heard mixed reviews but on the surface it sounds like something I'd like. It's about a girl who becomes a mercenary in 15th century Europe. It has fantasy/alternate history/science fiction and a bunch of other stuff mixed in. I found out about this one because I was trying to find info on her newest, which starts with '1610' in the title, aparently another alternate history.

Our library doesn't have any of her books (go figure) so I'll have to check out the couple of local used stores to see if I can find any. If I find one, I'll put up a review as soon as I read it (after I finish this !&^%^$$ Phillip K. Dick novel that has gotten me so depressed I don't know what to do with myself).

Cheers!

I've finally got my hands on Grunts, after much deliberation, as I couldnt get it from my library.

I just hope it was worth it :)

I think you can find my review of Grunts in the Reviews board. I didn't like it so well - Polymorphikos did. A fun read for the most part though. What I gather is that most of her other writing is pretty dark and intense fantasy fare.

Once I get it read I'll post my thoughts. Especially as she doesnt get mentioned much.:)
It could be a few readers are like me and waiting for more info before trying her work.

I read Grunts - it's a nice concept.

I'll not say too much as you've just got it, but it's worth a read.
Gets a bit weird towards the end ......you'll understand when you get there! :)
