relationship with Picard

Do we ever know Guniuns relationship with Picard because they is a line which she says that she is more than friends and family.

I've often wondered that - I reckon it must relate back to Time's Arrow. You know where they really meet for the first time. They spent a little time together there in that cavern whilst waiting for rescue !!!!! tee hee - oh I forgot Guinan was hurt wasn't she, so no hanky panky, but possibly a load of talking (and listening by Ms G)

It would be interesting to hear how Guinan and Picard actually meet in his timeline for the first time.

I think Whoopi played that part so well, especially when Riker was on at her to tell him what had happened in the past so he could do the right thing - very enigmatic

it was an intereesting relationship, be never saw how Picard came to trust her so implicitly, that he would take her opinions above his own at times, eg Yesterdays Enterprise, and the Borg first contact...

This is something that I do hope that they do resolve before the end of the TNG movies.

You hit upon it there Markpud -- Picard is willing to put the ship in danger several times, not on the basis of any scientific fact, but simply on a feeling that Guinan has, a feeling that she herself cannot even explain!!??

The writers hinted and implied that there was something that happened in the past between Picard and Guinan. What we don't know. I would think it would have to be something that really influenced Picard for him to just risk his ship on her feelings.

I think that is something which they should explore and resolve in the movies. Just who is this Guinan and what is her relationship to Picard?

I think a lot goes back to 'times arrow' episodes.... u saw how close they got towards the end.... when he stayed behind and looked after her when the rest of the crew returned to the future....

I'm not sure if she was around while he was on the USS Stargazer. I'm sure the relationship is two-way, and it is obvious that they have know each other a long time (not just 'Times Arrow'). Maybe Picard told her something in 'Times Arrow' about the future?

It appears (as there aren't going to be any more TNG films) we will never find out.

I love Guinan (and Whoopi). And, I love the whole relationship dynamic between the two characters. I don't think I've seen all TNG movies, but has this question been answered in the movies yet? Has it even been addressed?

No, it never was, and the problem is that we know very little about Guinan to even make a guess. We know she was an El-Aurian, and we know that they had to flee their planet from the Borg. We know that refugee ships arrived at Earth in the 23rd Century, but that Guinan was already here in the 19th. She is very long lived and she can detect the change in the timeline in 'Yesterday's Enterprise'. She mentions her father but that's about all.

I think thats one of the biggest things I liked about the character. We didn't know much about her. In addition to not knowing much about her, Picard trusts her so much.

Now that I think about it, I think I like the mystery - one of those things that will never be answered in the end.

Well I like closure. I realise that in weekly TV series such as Star Trek and Stargate, everything is pretty much made up as they go along, and the back-story for characters is continuously retconned, but I feel strongly that they owe it to fans, who have avidly watched every episode, to explain these puzzles. And since TNG has gone on to 5 movies there really is no excuse for not exposing this. The screenplay of films is gone over again and again in great detail and at length. You can't tell me that it wouldn't add to a screenplay to expose the secret of Guinan.
