I'm busily researching Sumerian and Babylonian history and mythology (for use in writing a fanfic, in addition to my natural curiosity)... I haven't found a handy source for some of the writings I want yet.
I've found Berossos and Manetho, Introduced and Translated : Native Traditions in Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt by Gerald P. Verbrugghe, John M. Wickersham quite useful so far.
Is anyone else delving into this aspect of the series?
I'm also looking for any information about A. Mosshammer's Teubner edition of George Syncellus (Leipzig 1984). It is mentioned in a book review of the Verbrugghe/Wickersham book at http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/bmcr/1997/97.06.11.html.
Yes, I know, I can't believe myself that I'm rooting around in all this dusty detail because of a fictional television series... but I've always had a passion for archae, paleo, and myth-ologies! :-D
Thanks for re-awakening that part of my personality, SG-1! Now, where did I put that coffee?
