Fox has ordered a two-hour Battlestar Galactica movie from Studios USA, based on the 1970s series, which will stand as a pilot for a proposed Galactica series for the 2002-03 season that will run jointly on Fox and The SCI FI Channel, Sarah Timberman, president of Studios USA Programming, announced. As previously reported, X-Men director Bryan Singer will helm and will also executive produce with Tom DeSanto, Dan Angel and Billy Brown. "We're tremendously excited to be bringing the originality and immense talent of Bryan Singer, Tom DeSanto, Dan Angel and Billy Brown to bear on reinventing what was clearly such a pop culture phenomenon," Timberman said in a statement.

The next-generation Galactica will be set after the seventh-millennium time frame of the original series, which ran on ABC from 1978-80. "Our goal is to take the Galactica franchise and move it forward in both style and character, while bringing the scope and sensibility of epic science-fiction filmmaking to the small screen," Singer said in a statement.

I can't wait! :D Although I'll have to keep an open mind since I had my favourites with the old show. I hope they don't go into this half hearted and ruin it, personally I think this could have a lot of potential!

Yeah, good points Prowler. It would be great is they enhance the potencial of the old series to modern times. But keep the old familiarity of the show. It will be great is some of the old characters are play by the same actors. But I suppose that is to ask for much. But anyway it will be so cool. So they have to consider it. No matter who brings it back(you know, Fox or another other group).

NO BATTLESTAT GALACTICA ON FOR OR UPN BUT mickey mouse mini series on SCIFI

THE SCIFI CHANNEL could **** up a wet dream, & now they are going to ruin Battlestar Galactica, by making it into a mini series!

Like they ruined any hope of a B5 revival with 'B5: The Legend of the Rangers' it was an awful show that drove a stake in the heart of a B5: series on 'The Scifi Channel'

From: www.battlestargalactica.com (Richard Hatch)

At the time of this writing, no official plot outlines are available for publication here.

On 22 February 2001, Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer ("The X-Men") announced, in conjunction with Studios USA (Vivendi Universal), plans to bring back Battlestar Galactica. [Note: Previous, separate production announcements by Richard Hatch in 1998 and Glen A. Larson in 1999 did not yield actual television shows or motion pictures.]

By September 2001 (the 23rd anniversary of the original show's debut), the Fox Network (U.S.) was taking interest in broadcasting the new Battlestar Galactica television series, starting with a 2-hour pilot episode. (An ongoing series may have been considered if the pilot episode ratings were strong enough.)

By November 2001, Bryan Singer left Battlestar Galactica to focus 100% on X2 ("The X-Men II") within Fox's film division. By December 2001, the Fox Network was no longer supportive and the Battlestar Galactica production offices closed their doors in Universal City, California.

On 2 April 2002, Sci-Fi Channel has announced a new Battlestar Galactica production team, leading to a planned 4-hour mini-series which "re-imagines" the show.

Sci-Fi Channel Discusses New Galactica
(2.April.02) From Variety: "A remake of the TV series "Battlestar Galactica" as a four-hour miniseries, the transformation of the mini "Firestarter: Rekindled" by Stephen King into an hourlong series and an animated sci-fi weekly half-hour based on the cult short film "Tripping the Rift": These were the highlights of the Sci-Fi Channel upfront presentation here April 2."

"We're making the most aggressive investment in original programming in our history," said Bonnie Hammer, president of Sci-Fi Channel.

Hammer said the impending takeover of Sci-Fi Channel by Vivendi Universal has already paid dividends with "Battlestar Galactica," which, Hammer said, is "one of Universal's library assets that we'll be able to re-imagine in miniseries form."

Battlestar Galactica shake-up at the Sci-Fi Channel
(2.April.02) According to Zap2It.com and Corona's Test Patterns site, the Sci-Fi Channel is opting for a NEW Battlestar Galactica production team, sans Tom DeSanto. (Confirmed with Mr. DeSanto this evening vy BattlestarGalactica.com, BattlestarFanClub.com and BattlestarPegasus.com.) The surprise announcement included the following details:

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which ``a rag, tag fugitive fleet'' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game).

That really is frustrating, I think the fans don't ask for much, I will be happy with old actors and new actors. That could only make it better. ;)

Post emails supporting Hatch, Benedict & Jefferon

Once more into the breach, we are fighting the good fight here! There is more going on here than a mini series vs. a continuation of old & new cast members.

The direction 'The Scifi Channel' is taking maybe the undoing of the SFC. The phony John Edward talking to the dead, Frakes hosting that trick or treat show Mon. thru Turs. nites. Thursday night isn't Scifi it's horror.

Ms. Bonnie Hammer the CEO of 'The Scifi Channel' is behind the decline.

I know we have seen this, but put link your email again.http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/direc...t/homepage.html

OK, Read this great editorial, link it to some emails & let’s post about how short sighted ‘The Scifi Channel’ is!

What really has TPTB frustrated @ 'The Scifi Channel' is that the vast majority of fandom is hell bent against the 'remake' version.

The vast majority of fans want a variation of this version!
