The Seafort Saga: Book One

Midshipman's Hope

When a hideous accident kills the senior officers of UNS Hibernia, it leaves a terrified young officer to save three hundred colonists and crew aboard a damaged ship, on a seventeen-month gauntlet to reach Hope Nation. With no chance of rescue or reinforcements, Nicholas Seafort must overcome despair, exhaustion and guilt. He must conquer malfunctions, mutiny and an alien horror beyond human understanding. And he must save lives, and take them -in the name of duty.

loved it!

I loved this book.

It is the best of the Seaford Saga. And as I first read it when I was 18 (Nick's age) I really idenified with him which made it even more enjoyable.

It was the best, as it presented the Nick's lonliness and the lonliness of the voyage very well. Also I loved the bond and friendship that developed between him and Derek Carr.

I could discuss this book for hours, but you proberly don't wanna hear my ramblings... ;)

Yeah the first one was great, but I still think I liked the last one a little better, as I said in another thread a while back, ?I just couldn't put it down :):)

I agree, "Children of Hope" was on the same level as "Midshipman's Hope"... it was a much more interesting read then "Midshipman's Hope", but I proberly have a little bit more sentimentality with "Midshipman's Hope", so it proberly takes it over the top just a little bit...

But the great think about "Children of Hope" was the fresh prepective Feintuch gave Nicholas. No more of the beating himself up with the self-hate stuff that really bogged down the middle novels. And finally getting some demension to the fish was great!

It most certainly was, and its really cool that even after he keeps getting in trouble, they have to let him talk to the fish 'cause he's the only one who understands them :D:D
