when Andromeda Slipstreams

When the ship goes into slipstream. Which is about 3 times an episode. While they are in the Slipstream. Does anyone know what the still lighting and/or white veins are called? Also what is the psudo science behind them?

Hm... uh oh. A tough question :laugh2: Have you asked everybody at Slipstream BBS?
 
All I want to know is *why* they wanted to make the trip through slipspace look like a really bad acid trip!? :)
