Tears of the Prophets.

It occurred to me that we only ever got to see 5 of the 9 Orbs, or Tears, of the Prophets; the mystical artifacts of the Bajoran religion; hourglass-shaped energy vortices, discovered in the Bajoran Star System over the past 10,000 years.

So far we saw:

The Orb of Prophecy a.k.a. Change.
The Orb of Contemplation.
The Orb of the Emissary.
The Orb of Time.
The Orb of Wisdom.

What do you think the others might be?

Here are some of my suggestions:

The Orbs of...

...Enlightenment or Experience.
...Reason or Conscience.
...Clairvoyance or Destiny.
...Advice or Judgement.
...Truth and Consequences.
...Eternity or Forever.
...Hope or Optimism.
...Imagination.

And where could they all be?

...gathering dust in a Bajoran monastery.
...in boxes in a Cardassian Military base.
...in boxes in a Federation Military base. (Area 51)
...on a Ferengi market stall.
...waiting for an export licence.
...among the collection of Kivas Fajo 'The Most Toys' TNG.

More seriously, the Cardassians supposedly stole eight Orbs during the Bajoran occupation and didn't return them, although Grand Nagus Zek acquired the Orb of Wisdom from Cardassia. Also, it is possible that some others have been destroyed, since in 'The Storyteller' DS9, Sirah has a tiny stone that is a fragment of an Orb.

hmmm well if the Cardassians have them, i'm sure Garak will convince them to give them back.

And if not then I'm sure the Prophet's have their reasons for keeping them from the Bajoran people!

I ike the idea of some being kept 'safe' in a Bajoran monastery somewhere.

I like the idea of an Orb of Optimism best. So that you can always look on the bright side of the future.

Really, these Orbs all do the same thing -- Precognition, or the perception of future events -- so why do they need 9 anyway?

I try really hard not to be, but I guess I'm naturally pessimistic. I can always see if something isn't going to work. I always look for things that might go wrong with something, and it is naturally much easier to find faults with things and people, than it is to praise them.

and as they say, pessimists cannot be dissapointed.
so it could be a good thing!
