What's up with the line:
"Don't screw this up."
It is said by the Admiral of Starfleet to Captain Archer. Is it just me, or does it seem like it would have been perfectly natural if he had finished it with the words:
"this time."
Seems as if Archer has made a few mistakes in his day. I mean, if Archer is an upstanding officer, then the admiral is completely unprofessional.
If you ask me, Archer probably isn't the main man in the running for the captains chair. Think of it this way; Archer's father was good friends with Zephrin Cochrane right? Ok, didn't Archer also help his father design the Enterprise?
Well think of the movie contact. The girl discovered everything, even brought the info on how to build the damn portal thinga majik to the government, and even though she was in on the project the whole time, they decided someone else should go.
Maybe Archer is in the same boat. Perhaps he assumes he will command the ship since he has played such a major role in its development. Maybe the Admiral has someone else in mind. Maybe Archer just barely gets on this ship. Perhaps higher powers he owe Cochrane a favor put him onboard, and the Admiral doesn't agree with the decision. For all we know the admiral might want more of a military type in the captains chair. Archer does need to be taught to use a phaser correctly.
Maybe the admiral sees Archer as too soft. Who knows, maybe I'm elaborating to much on one line from the promo. Still, I hope ENT gives us a lot of background on Archer, it makes for better character development.
