Well, I'm going to have to watch this one again.

I've gotta be missing something. But this ep just didn't do for me, I'm afraid.

The effects were very pretty and suitably awe-inspiring. The scenery was magnificent - to think it was filmed near a major city! Those mountains! With the snow on top!

But the story and the acting, hmmmmmm.

Contrived is a word that springs to mind.

Where did the Enkarans suddenly come from that SG-1 was so involved with them, that Jack felt such angst over their apparent fate?

None of SG-1 acted like SG-1. Teal'c was non-existant for starters. Sam was lacklustre. Even Daniel (and it was another Daniel episode - not that I'm complaining because he's getting better and better) didn't quite have it.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm not well at the moment. But the best things about this ep did not involve SG-1. I can't believe I said that. Gosh, I even like Emancipation.

I definately have to watch it again.

Well, at the beginning of Watergate they already wanted to take them to another planet, before the gate malfunctioned.
In Scorched Earth we get to know it took over two weeks to do that. I think it's a pretty long time to get to know each other quite well. ;)
But I didn't like it that for starters Jack didn't seem to have many problems with blowing up the alien's ship and ignore the General's orders, Teal'c really hadn't much appearance, Sam knew that it was against the General's order to blow the ship up, but seemed to be more worried about her beloved Colonel's orders than the General's. Only Daniel tried to find a solution and finally did.
They all seemed to act like different people, exept Daniel.

*goes back up her tree* :monkee:

I'm afraid I have to agree with Cat on this one. It was pretty boring episode. Not even many good lines. Not much humour. The visiual effects were FANTASTIC though. I liked the whole "I have to order you to make a Naqadah bomb" thing between Sam and Jack, that was pretty good, it showed a different side to the CO/2IC relationship, something that had never really happened before between them.

O'Neill: Think a well placed stinger would do some damage?
Carter: Well, we have no way of knowing what material the ship's made of, Sir.
Teal'c: Or if it possesses shield technology.
O'Neill: Ah, just fantasizing.

Daniel: Any intelligence capiable of enginnering something like that should be capable of reason.
Carter: Thing is, will they listen?
O'Neill: Or the real question is, will they have ears?

O'Neill: He's telling us this now?
Daniel: He didn't know. He's only a day and a half old, give him a break.

I guess it's a good thing that this ep was so crap because it gets you really excited about Beneath the Surface next week. I can not wait. It is a brilliant episode with loads of angst. :rolly2:

I thought that this episode wasn't too bad, but I didn't like the lack of opinion or appearence for that matter, of tealc.

The Sam/Jack whole to bomb or not to bomb was good, and even though I could see where Jack was coming from I didn't like him ordering Carter to build the bomb, although Sam should have objected!!!

I definetly agree that all the characters were really different...not themselves. The writers did some strange things with this ep...

Although I have admit, I was really hanging on at the end to find out what was going to happen...!!!!!!!!!!!

there was a few good lines.

"Carter."

"Sir?"

"Should we really be opening draws and things?"

(daniel presses button)

"What did I just say?!"

"Not exactly ET."

I am SO relieved! I thought I might be on my own on this one.

I've watched it again. It got a bit better. I particularly liked rda's acting - with the controlled fury because Daniel had gone back to the ship when they had just gone the bomb ready and the clock was counting down.

I also liked the do we / don't we make the bomb discussion. But there was no way that Sam wasn't going to make the bomb. She had been given a direct order and she's enough of a soldier that she wouldn't mutiny.

I'm really looking forward to BTS next week - special effects are all well and good but I think I like the character development and interaction type episodes.

I did notice though on the promo for BTS, Jack and Daniel are looking rather......well..........rugged :D and Sam looks ........ well......she looks like Sam, make-up and all, hair slightly tussled but still looking gorgeous. [this is not to say that the boys don't look gorgeous. they just look gorgeous in a more earthy, rugged, blokey ........... I gotta stop now *sigh*]

I have watched it again now, and after paying more attention, I liked it more. Cat, you're right, she is enough of a soldier not to object...although it would have made it really good if she had... I can't believe I'm saying this, since I'm a major (no pun intended)Sam and Jack shipper, but it would have been very interesting to see a little fight go on their...but they would have to make up of course...

Next week is gonna be good...but I'll really miss Sam's hair!!!!!!!!

I liked it longer, not as long as it was in this ep, I liked the length in "Window of Opportunity".
