I'm ready for some useless bit of trivia. What ep at the end of season two did they seriously 'go grey' with Jack's hair? Here in the U.S. they are showing reruns all out of order and I got to thinking about "Out of Mind"/"Into the Fire" without seeing anything else but my season one DVDs and a tape of five season two eps that are not in order. I got all wierded out when I finally caught "Into the Fire" and was reminded of "Out of Mind" I'd seen six months ago. So, I went looking for when this change was.

Was it somewhere before "One False Step" they started messing with the color? Am I just nuts? You look at stuff from early season two and it's blond/grey/silver and end it's black/sliver/white.

Cyn
-- stressing about hair for some reason. Looking for greys of her own and only finds some bizzare auburn and gold strands... I'm not going grey, I'm going gold?! "That just ain't right!"

can't tell you exactly when, but probably somewhere about 1/2 way in -- but, i can tell you that 'they' weren't messing w/ Jack's hair -- RDA decided to stop worrying about it -- and just left it alone (well, that's how i heard it anyway) ---

it does change - but i think they may have done it gradually -- so it didn't look weird through the series --- however, if you see the eps out of order, it might look rather odd ----

honestly, I think they pulled it back after "Into the Fire" episode. Later eps of season three it don't nearly grab my attention as much as "Fire". But RDA also he's got this thing for hats ( the odder the better, I notice ) so saying he's left it alone isn't true. Rogaine sells for some reason-- men's vanity!! :D

i think it was right around out of mind/into the fire. he jsut stopped dying it and went natural...which is very salt/pepper.. want to talk about jarring, a few months ago when showtime was double running season 4...sam's hair was long/short/long/short...felt like i was watching a tennis match

lighting

Notice that you get the widest variant of hair colors depending on if it's a location shoot, a studio shoot or what. Every time they make a lighting change or gel change, the colors go different.

I believe that was a big part of the problems they were having with his hair before he made the decision to go 'au natural'. I know when I'd touch/shade and/or dye my hair, it would take on dierent aspects and colors denpending on the types of artifical light or natural light.

I finially stopped ditzing with it when it went over the 50 percent mark. The grey [actually, silver, in my case] picked up the dyes differently and I got some of the most *interesting* tinsts, frosts and what not for a few years. ;)

Yah, I guess with all the different sets of designers and master electricians week to week before seeing a final of the show leave the CGI post editing, it could be hard to communicate the thing (levels, gel, location reflectors/shades) that "works" best.

With the long-short thing, Jack's hair in Out Of Mind/Into the Fire/Seth was a bit long and that also could be what is a bit wierd. I'm fairly certain RL in-the-field people like SG-1 wouldn't get that liberty to let it go long. Right? At least not the service guys. D being a civy had to be the exception. Later in season three they did pull back into the military short cut and that changed the quality too.

Long grey vs. short grey. I must have a preference based on my past aquaintances!

With the long-short Sam hair. That would be a bit nutty to see. Somehow the longer hair makes her look older/smarter and short is pixey cute. I caught it on "Tangent" from the archive site. I'm sure it affects the way AT plays the character slightlly, too.

I love it short and when I go short with my clippers I'm playing with it like hers is when short. AT and the one girl from the movie The Matrix have my favorite hairstyle to copy. Hmmmm. Looking in the mirror right now I need to buzz cut my hair tonight. Getting a bit long again. That's the big drawback to buzzed hair. Clip early, clip often... :D

hair

Hair in the field is bad. Actually... hair anywhere on your body in the field is bad. Husband used to shave himself *totally* before a long field problem. Easier to make sure you don't get 'cooties' of some sort.

When I shipped to Saudi, I went to the guy who does my hair [like there's any to do] and tole him 'Cut it as short as you can and it still looks like a girl.' You don *not* want to deal with a field protective mask [gas mask] and long hair. Not the sort of thing you want to discover doesn't fit well in the middle of a chem attack.

Women were 'advised' to shave also. Sand fleas are no respector of gender, believe me.

I still wear it short... just about always have. It's pretty thin and fine and if I grow it out, there's no bulk to it and it looks painted on.

I thought so about the hair! Teal'c is the rule not the exception then! :D Thing about the short hair is I'm still a bit wiggy to go short on the top. Sam goes the one step I keep balking on with the whispy front. I guess she has the face for it.

I've spent a year experimenting enough to have the coordination to do my own hair with clippers, but chicken out on going buzz short in top and front! Just once I'm going to put the 1" comb on and just nap it all! Will that look scary?

::: cluck, cluck::::

Skip! get this chicken out of here!!! :D

Hair

If the pic you're using as a avatar is close to your hair cut, mines about the same [in silver] but without quite the fullness on top unless I blow dry it. I'm a towel, finger fluff and go gal.

i remember reading somewhere that AT wanted a 'more girl-like' haircut when they were getting ready for season 4, i think (whenever it was she had that funky long, in-her-face hair cut) and the AF advisor told the PTB that she had to cut it b/c it was too long, or she had to change it -- b/c it wasn't 'reg' --

personally - i hated that long hair - it looked dopey w/ the uniforms and such -- in the promo photo in the magazine it looked okay tho -- the shorter hair looks better --

guess the bad thing about the filming schedule is that she doesn't have time to grow it to, say, shoulder length where she could 'pin' it up (Like Harriet on JAG) -- so she's gotta keep it shorter --

Jack - well - personally - i love RDA w/ the 'hockey hair' from his MacGyver days -- it took me a LONG time to get over the fact that he hacked all his hair off --the 1st time i saw him after he cut it - he looked soooo bad - it was buzzed! it looked terrible - i thought i was gonna die! oh - and at the same time - Wayne Gretzky had lopped all of his hair off too -- i was thinking - 'what the heck is going on!! all these guys w/ all this great hair and they are ALL cutting it off!' i was so depressed!

--- but for his current character - i like it shorter -- it looks good on him -- even w/ the grey!

What was going on? Hell, we were getting out of the freaking mullet 70's and 80's! LOL!

I'm checking my hair in the pic and this is the long phase for it. Now that I don't pay for hairdoos I clip it much more often. I'd look a whole lot more like the doos of the '70's if I were paying $26 a haircut like I used to. Them folks on the show are so lucky having them dressers an makeup ppl!

It's been about a month and a half since I last had the clippers out of the vanity. Tonight is hair night for sure.

yeah - well, the whole reason i started watching MacGyver was b/c i caught a glimpse of that sexy RDA w/ all that beautiful hair!

of course - then i saw some earlier eps when it was short - oh - it looked back -- but he was really skinny looking then too - so the short hair made him look like an exclamation point ---

see - the thing was -- all the guys w/ 'hockey hair' ALL cut it at the same time!! Gretzky, RDA, ummmm -- lots of other hockey players (can't remember all the names) - other actors -- everyone was chopping all their hair off -- drove me crazy!!

RDA cutting his probably wouldn't have bothered me so much if he had been a little less drastic about it -- but he sheared it - it was GONE!

For the "Pandora's Box" airplane movie? His Tonight Show appearance for that just wasn't all that hot either. Or the screen captures I viewed weren't the best...

Let's face it. Life's been pretty good to our hero... he's still one foxy guy and he's got more going on with hair than my poor twenty-nine-year-old step brother and his widow peak receding hairline. :D Sorry, Mike.

no - the one i saw was the 'jim thorpe's pro-sports awards' -- he was a presenter w/ Tracy Scoggins (Cassandra on Highlander) -- and his hair was spikey and really short -- and he was wearing a tux - he looked like a funky pencil -- it was weird --

yeah - life's been pretty good to RDA --

and - you're allowed to pick on your siblings -- it's why they're there ----- hehehehehehe

I almost read that "you can pick your siblings" not "pick on your siblings" :D

I met Mike and his sister when I was twenty or so. We're in no way related so I haven't felt much for them in the "picking on" department. Mike was eighteen then and had long, straight hair down his back. He also liked to make and juggle flaming torches. He wanted to marry a farm girl later on and her family was totally put off by the hippy. He got clean cut, started showing he had farm fixing skills, and the family stopped looking askant at him. :D

I'm betting RDA and all them hockey players all met farm girls and had to please Pa Farmer!

It was only this year, I'm age 32 now, that I was requesting permission of his mother to thwap him in the head for making me nearly burn my hand and my chest in the kitchen as he blocked my way to setting down a hot cookie sheet. My family is so nutty.

As for my younger blood sister, Sandy, I can't pick on her. She's been to college for chemical engineering and feels she's SO much smarter than her arts educated older sister. It turns into a Danny and Jack routine. "is not!" "Is so!" I can't win and I'm hurt that she has to be right.

(Oddly enough this whole sibling thing made it into a SG-1 fic this summer.)

what is it w/ those science people??? ;)

me? i studied Poli Sci -- haven't had much chance to use it tho - 'cept to argue w/ ppl about the way the 'system' is supposed to work as opposed to how they 'think' it works ---

so - i sit back and kinda laugh at ppl who think they know all about 'american government' and how everything is -- when they don't really know all they think they know -- but a lot of that is b/c they're taught the wrong things in school ---

ie: everyone seems to think the president has all the power in the government -- not true -- according to the Constitution - the powers are divided amongst the 3 branches -- Judicial, executive, legislative -- but everyone thinks the court is weak -- guess again ppl -- are you aware that many of the laws we have to abide by are direct results of Supreme Court decisions? and do you know how hard it is to overturn one??? pretty much all the pres can do is sign legislation into law -- and even if he vetoes - Congress can override -- oh - and the President can declare nuclear war - but why would he want to? that would only result in obliterating most of the planet - so - ooh - if ya wanna go out in a blaze of radioactive glory - by all means -- nuke something -

okay - end of poli sci lesson for today ----

weren't we talkin' 'bout Jack's hair????? ;)

:blah: I kept it OT! I think RDA was like my step-bro. He was a free wheeler for thirty-odd years. He had to clean up to get the girl IMHO. Now he's living what my dad selfishly calls 'the good life.' Wife, child and house. :blah: Like I say my family is nutty. He's sure my sister and I (fast becoming old maids and poster children of the divorce era. closeness = loss someday) are not living this good life.

well -- to stick w/ RDA's changing hair styles --

from the beginning of MacGyver --

Short - longer - longer - longer - longer - really long - shortened

that's all 7 seasons of MacGyver -- in season 6 he had this really long, layered look happening -- we're talkin' just below the shoulder -- looked good on him tho -- but it was kinda all over everywhere ---

then -- right after Mac - he made a couple movies w/ it long - one had it blondish - darker than Mac, the other had it dark brown --

then - he lopped it all off -- buzzed it -- it looked bad - this was Jim Thorpe's pro - sports awards look -- then it grew a smidge and he made another movie where he played an abusive cop --

(somewhere in there he did Past the Bleachers that i've never seen b/c i don't have hallmark as a channel here)

then Pandora's Clock - it was a little longer - but this character would have had 'regs' for his hair - he was an airline pilot - also ex military ---

somewhere in all of this he did Legend - his hair was long-ish - not MacGyver long - but not Jack O'Neill short either (i know, i'm out of sequence, but i can't remember where everything goes)

then - Stargate! -- short, brownish hair in the beginning -- then progressively greyer as the series progresses ----

so, we go from describing RDA's hair in length to describing it in color - from Mac to SG1 -- what a progression!
