okay, i've been reading the stargate books of two different sorts...

we all know that *our* sg1 is USAF, right?

but in the books by bill mccay, jack is in the marines.
also, in the broca divide, didn't makepiece say
"that's why the SG3 marines are coming with, you can count on us to watch your backsides" and that was followed by a cute comment by danny about his *front side*

but which is it? isn't cheyenne mountain a USAF operation?

i might just be being thick, perhaps someone who knows what they are talking about could explain it...

USAF or Marines

Okay, at least in this reality, Jack and Sam are in the Air Force. There are some Marines in the SG teams - Makepeace is a Marine, and so is his team. Teal'c is always being talked about as "off with the Marines" esp in Chain Reaction (not spoiling!). Hammond and Jacob are USAF General's, but the Marines still answer to George.

I think it's a multi-force command.

okay - to help w/ this -- someone once said that originally in the script for the movie - Col. O'Neill was supposed to be a Marine - but they changed it --

so - Bill McKay's books follow that - and closer to the movie -- but
our SG-1 and friends are AF - and some other guys stop in to help out -- the armed forces (and someone can correct me if i'm wrong) are not necessarily mutually exclusive groups - they help each other out -----

cheyenne mountain (and the real norad) are us Air Force bases...therefore the commanding officer would be air force (which hammy is)
sam, jack, ferretti, siler, janet, davis et all are air force personnel
makepeace and his marines were..marines under the command of general hammond

it is not uncommon for different branches to help each other out. for example the navy could ferry and help a squad of marine commandos get to thier mission, or launce army planes or choppers off a navy carrier.

the branches aren't mutually exclusive. perhaps when they were conceived the army was ground combat, the air force air...(well this century anyway), the navy the sea and the marines..well they're just tough sob's LOL

just like in 'reality' fort carson is literally right across the street from cheyenne mountain. but i'll bet if hammy needed help he could call the army to back him up(if we just ignore all that clearances stuff)

they branches do work together...but there are definite rivalries...ever watched the army/navy game? we're talking brutal here

Actually, the marines are always very confused anyway. They can never quite make their minds up whether they're navy or army.... so they sort of hover inbetween. I dated a USMC Captain for a while and was fascinated to hear what he thought of the army, navy and air force. You'd think they were an inferior species the way he talked.

:D ;)

A little more military history: the USAF was created on Sept 18, 1947, and traces it's origins to the US Army Signal Corps. Part of the USAF's mission is to protect the US from attack by air. The USAF Space Command, based at Peterson AFB, Colorado, works with NASA on space projects (hence, Stargate).

Ever notice that the US Army is not at Cheyenne Mtn.? Or the Navy, not that they'd have much to do. :D They could have been called upon to supply the Russians with a leakproof submarine.:smiliea:

LOL you never know bout those boat boys....
and we have coast guard here in kansas so...who knows
(taken me 20 years and i still ain't found the coast they're supposed to be guarding....maybe they never got the memo that the inland sea evaporated about a million years ago...)

Hi there everyone. i like that thing about the Coast Guard and the memo!:)
