Simple discussion/question: when is a goa'uld dead, and from how badly damaged can a goa'uld body be regenerated in the sarcophagus.

Generally, the reconstructions and generations we see in the series are simple physical damage, staff-weapon blasts being the most common, or occassional bullet-wounds. Perhaps the worst case is Apophis

(limited spoliers forseries 2)

when he dies of for want of a better name, natural causes, as a result of Sokar's attack. The host body is in this case very badly damaged, and the symbiote itself is dead. It could be argued in pretty much every other case the sarcophagus is used, the symbiote could still be alive.

So, the big question, from how far gone can the sarcophagus regenerate a human host / goa'uld symbiote, and what does this mean in terms of how to finally kill a goa'uld, when a sarc is available?

I would think that beheading would be good, or cremation - either have got to be difficult to regenerate from...

Incidentally, possible plot error: when Apophis dies in Serpents Song, the host is alive for another few minutes; the symbiote should have started to decompose to be absorbed by the hosts body, which is described by Sam and others as what normally happens when the goa'uld dies. Such a decomposition, even in a very frail host, would make it much harder to revive in a sarcophagus.

it must take time for a goa'uld to decompose... i suppose sokar revived him in time b4 the symbiote was 2 far gone.
