Do you think that the military members of SG-1 would ever be vulnerable to being reassigned to another base/job, or are they SG-1 forever? For instance, if Jack was promoted to Brigadier General, would he be have the same job? (Probably not, in my opinion).

in reality. no.

first of all after five years it's doubtful that sg-1 would still be together at all

most likely a colonel wouldn't be going out on missins like jack does. and it's also unlikely that sam would be on a first contact team (womens lib is far from universal and if the us military won't let females in combat do you really think they'll let them explore other planets?)

if sam went through the gate it would most likely be on a secondary team after they knew the situatin was secure.

if they do get promoted it is most likely that jack could one dayget command of the sgc, that is if he hasn't ticked off too many folks with his mouth.

sam would liekly be base bound running the sciences dept...

and hammy would likely have been 'encouraged' to retire about 5 years ago when they realized the sgc wasn't closing down a base but a front line assignment.

there would be lots of younger and more ambitious officers chomping at the bit to get their foot into 'front line' activities.

but this is tv so we can keep sg-1 together forever <G>

what do you mean "it's only tv"??? :erm:
You mean... it's not real?

Bugger.:p ;)

James T. Kirk said never let them promote you out of the chair/ out of the field.

He's probably right. That just leads to paper pushing  and . . . well . . . being politically correct. ;)

and in that aspect jack is sooo screwed. 1) he's horrible at paperwork
2) he's ticked off WAAAAYYYY too many people to ever go much higher than he is. mayby, maybe one day he could make brig gen...but it'd be more like a 'gee we're glad you're retiring, you may be a pain in the @$$ but you did save the world so have a couple of stars..." kind of promotion

LOL:rolly2:

So I take it nobody has told you about the Easter Bunny!!!! ;)

What about the Easter Bunny? He lives with Santa and the Tooth Fairy doesn't he?;)

I don't think we'll ever see Jack get another promotion.
Maybe Sam though, but I think she'd have to do something pretty amazing.

I wondered why (Jack being the exception) why they would send Sam, and Daniel out in the field considering the programme builds them up as being "the best in their business" at the Base.
Also, Teal'c is the only Jaffa on their side (exception to his master) surely they would worry about losing his knowledge if he where to die on an un-related goa'uld mission.

Just wondering!;)

They wouldn't. ;) For exactly the reason you say. And James T Kirk never would have beamed down to a planet.

But as skydiver so eloquently put it, this is tv. So pay no attention to the man behind the curtain................

Don't worry, Nic, I'll send the Jack O'Lantern and the Thanksgiving Turkey to cheer you up.

You hit the nail right on the head. If this were the real military, he would have been off the force long ago! Probably a Section 8.
