Only using "dead" religions

Something I realised today was that SG-1 only seems to encounter religions which are either totally defunct, or redeveloped so far that they can be viewed as historical.

For example, Norse, Egyptian and Aztec religions are extinct, and middle ages Catholicism has moved on somewhat.

Is this to avoid developments that could not have left earth (theoretical solution) or to avoid religious confrontaton (more likely in PC programme makers view)??

I think the latter. I mean if there are full on christians watching, (and probably working on the show as well!) then they don't want to insinuate to them that God doesn't exist, or that he's a Goa'uld or whatever.

I have seen evidence that certain un-named countries are becoming almost obsessive over political correctness well beyond the point of common sense. In that vein I did wonder if they are delibverately keeping to stuff which is myth or long-since past, so as to not offend anyone today.

Though I am sure they still do...

Plus, when they're doing stats or anything, and say, 'state your religion', I think many young people just put down christianity, because they feel they should, or they want to be in the 'in' group, I think very few ppl actually genuinly believe what Christian's do. And it's the same with people wearing crosses. I think half the time, it's just for the sake of wearing jewellry.

But thats just my thoughts...
