Clarke's Short Stories

Does anyone read any of Clarke's shorter works?

They are brilliant. He has 6 short story anthologies. There are really great collections and very entertaining. I particularly liked Expedition to Earth. There is one story called Superiority that is really wonderful.

Yes, i hav read all the stories in Expedition to Earth. The first time i read them, which was all at once, got a bit confused, second time round, made more sense. Particually enjoyed the first one, second dawn, what was the one you said was about, can't remember.
P.S. hav u read 2001, 2010 and 2061? I see you like SG1 too.

I love short stories, especially those by Clarke, Asimov and Niven. What I like most about short stories is the unexpected ending that most have - just when you think you know what's going to happen, you get thrown a real curve ball that leaves you wondering how you missed it.

Oh, and short stories are great when you haven't got the time to read a full length novel, but still have the urge to read some science fiction. ;)

I have probably read some of his short stories - I read obsessively as a teenager and my Uncle (who I lived with at the time) had an excessive collection of SF books. It is weird though, so many of the ideas that were central to various SF short stories I read have stayed with me, long after I forgot who the author was. In fact I have spent long hours leafing through books in bookstores trying to locate particular writings.

Why don't they keep the covers the same - I can only recognise the cheesy 70s ones!

I love Clarke's novels as well as his shorter works. Expedition to Earth is a great one, taking place only on earth. You may also like his 2000 novel Light of Other Days. EtE has a sort of a sister volume, The Sentinel where all stories take place in space. It's interesting to read them side by side.

Tor released a 'Complete Short Stories' collection last year, which has all his short stories. I have this, and it has certainly saved me a lot of trouble!!!
