What Do You Want To See?

To those of you who don't know me, I work at SG-1 in the art department. To call my job work is blasphemy, its fun, pure and simple.
I get to play with zat guns, walk around inside interstellar spacecraft and hang out with aliens five days a week. For a scifi fan this is a dream come true, and I am, and always have been a scifi fan.
I still can't get enough of the vintage radio plays like X Minus One, heck I've seen 2001 A Space Odyssey over thirty times.
What I am curious about is: if you could pick one story that you have read or heard that deserves to be made into a feature film or television series, what would it be?
To get the ball rolling, my answer would be the "Rama" series by Arthur C. Clarke. To my thinking this would lend itself nicely to a series because in typical Clarke fashion there really is no conclusive end to the story.

Definetly Rama. That was a brilliant series!!!

PS. I want your job. You are SO lucky!!! :D :D :D

Yeah, lucky you.... *looks dreamy*

Another thought on the same topic. Another inspiration to build a story around is an album from the eighties by a band called "THE BUGGLES", called The Age Of Plastic. With possible exception of the one big hit "Video Killed The Radio Star" the album plays like a very dark scifi story and it is one I have never tired of. I highly reccomend it.

I admit, I have not read a lot of them, but some of the fanfics would be nice to see on tv. I'm sticking with Stargate since that's what's in my head right now. I can provide specific examples later. :)

"The Dig"

"The Dig" by Alan Dean Foster. It was the last scifi book I read. I really enjoyed it! I also liked "Saurian" by William Schoell, but I'm not sure how that would come off in a movie (but I guess with computers anything is possible now). Just a thought! Later!

I'd like to see the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelasny -- all 10 books! made into a movie. Also, the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. There's this new series by JD Robb about a futuristic cop named Eve Dallas and the serial killers she tracks. It's really, really good.

The Rama series bugged the crap out of me! I really don't like having to follow a series of books released over four years and not have an ending.

I'm still hoping for Dragonriders of Pern to get some screentime somewhere. Let's see what would I like to see? Parts of some short stories from McCaffrey's "To Ride Pegasus" on into the series about Rowan, Damia, telekenisis and the space war. Also "Crystal Singer" but that would be way out there. "Restoree" would make a good mystery SF movie.

Tad Williams' "Dragonbone Chair" through "Green Angel Tower" series.

Mercedes Lackey's series about the Companions and mind magic.

Tanya Huff's stuff about holes into hell and Keepers that thwart the stuff leaking out.

Joan D. Vinge stories.

Melanie Rawn's "Stronghold."

C.J. Cherryth's "Pride of Chanur" series.

I am the idea woman. I should take a crack at writing a teleplay for a few of these. There's more, but that comes from a glance over the books in the bookcase and not stored in boxes in the closet. :D

I'd love to see a series of movies based on the uplift series written by David Brinn. Or a few more TV series based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld books.

Oh yeah. Or "The Practice Effect" That is one of my favs and maybe I have to reread with the idea of casting RDA in the role? Mmmmm..... He would be the man to do the cynic humor in that one.

Ditto, Cyn. I'd love to see the Chanur books and the Amber series. How cool would a "Downbelow Station" mini-series be!

Let me add Thieves' World and the Wild Card series (ed by George RR Martin).

CynVision, you have good taste in books! :coolyello
BTW, I tried to join your RDA Leather Brigade, but for some reason, it didn't work.

I'd like to see some of Tanith Lee's work brought to the television. Her books are a little weird, but they are very good--if you like your fantasy with a little horror. :dead:

Why thanks, ysm! It's the long-term effect of a mispent youth escaping into pulp SF. If I'd applied myself to school assigments as much as I did SF paperbacks I'd be smarter. Or, would I? :wink2: Just from "Pride of Chanur" series alone I know a bit about how propulsive space craft would wage a war around a spacestation! With radio lag! On the other hand what use is that when confronted with an American history question? Sure I'd like to go on a gameshow but it have to be Fear Factor rather than Millionaire!

I have to hire movers the next time I want to move my "collection." I once tried to inventory the titles I have but used HyperCard and we all see where Apple Computer is today! Have to start all over again in Windoz something or other.

I'm not sure I followed "Downbelow Station." Wasn't it hard to find? The name is really cool, however.

It was CJ's opus novel. It won the Hugo, it ought to be very very easy to find. It's way too big to be a movie, it'd have to be a mini-series.

Effinger's Fire in the Sky books (kinda cyber-punk mystery detective novel) would be cool too.
