Okay~ I have another one of those questions that's been bugging me for a long time! So I am going to ask the experts here! :smile:

I've been trying to figure out how old Alexander is based on his days on TNG and then on DS9. It seems there is no way enough years could have passed for cute little Alexander to be grown up warrior on DS9.

Also, does the same actor play both roles? I shouldn't think so! I loved the young Alexander on TNG, he was one of my favorite characters, actually.

Any help in resolving this puzzle would be most appreciated! And I could stop thinking about it! :laugh2:

I'm fairly sure it isn't the same actor, just trying to look that up now...

Possibly Klingons grow up faster than humans, I reckon Alexander was about 8 in TNG, and turned up 7 years later on DS9, therefore about 15 years old. But he looked older than that...

I didn't think it could be the same actor but they did a pretty good job matching up young Alexander with older Alexander. However I still wonder (sorry) if the the actor who plays DS9 Alex is using his own voice or it is dubbed. I always thougt it looked and sounded dubbed in.

I'm still trying to work the math out in my head (could take years ;)) from TNG to DS9. I figured Alexander could be as old as 10 at the end of TNG, which was 1994 our time. Then he shows up in what, Season 6 of DS9? So that is '97 or '98, I think. That would put him at 13 or 14 max.

That's why I get so confused by it. Of course I am counting the same amount of years elapsed in the ST Universe as out here in the "real" world.

I wondered if Klingons matured faster, too. But everything I've heard about Klingon physiology and their long life span makes me think they would mature more slowly. Plus they have redundant organ systems, whatever that means. Curious and fascinating.

lol..life is over-rated anyway :D

I guess Klingons could mature to full size faster, as they have a tough life, so evolution would indicate the best way to survive is to be at full strength...and then live longer....

Lots of fans commented on the speed Alexander grew up, but as Markpud said, you can always blame it on Klingon physiology. Niaomi Wildman grew up quickly too and thats what they said. The real reason is that the laws governing the use of child actors heavily restrict the time they can work, so it is easier if they grow up quick.

Alexander, one mixed up kid!

I just don't know how he grew up so normal -- first he doesn't have contact with his father, then he sees his mother murdered, his father ignores him. He is 1/4 Klingon, but lives with strange Human Russian/Jewish grandparents (who for some reason have New York American accents even though they have mostly lived on another planet called Gault). Made to go to school with Human kids, but when it doesn't work out, sent to boarding school with Klingon clerics as teachers. He eventually runs away and joins the Klingon Navy, only to have his father assigned to the same ship. I think that Deanna Troi was more interested in Alexander than Worf, she could have held a whole psychology conference about him alone!

He certainly did have his problems to cope with as he grew up.... I mean his father drank prune juice.... eeeeeeeee
 
I thought he was 1/4 human and 3/4 Klingon. He did have a tough time growing up. I felt sorry for him.

I always liked him though. He was such a sweetheart with a very tender heart. I thought that combination of being Klingon but with a gentle heart/spirit was terrific and wish they had developed that more.

I loved the eppy in TNG with Mrs. Troi and Alexander where she sort of takes him under her wing as she prepares to marry a very UN-Troi-like man. Now, she would have been an excellent choice to raise Alexander. Bet he would have turned out pretty cool under Lwaxana's tutelage!!!:D

Edited to add that I just loved that Worf drinks prune juice. "A warrior's drink!" ;)

And I thought it was great they made Alexander sort of clumsy. I think it fits his character and his experiences well.

ALEXANDER

Alexander was 3 when his mother was murdered. Can't remember what year that was. I also loved the episode where Lwaxanna Troi bonds with him. It was one of the best and funniest they ever made. I laughed so hard at the ending that it hurt! (Lwaxanna, Alexander, Deanna and Worf in the mud bath). :erm: :laugh: :laugh: :wink2:
 
i loved the episode when worf was gonna die and he asked troi to become his son guardian... sad but a funny episode
 
Yeah, that mudbath scene was great!:lol: Worf's drollery was much in evidence. He's the perfect straight man, the jokes just bounce right off him.

I forget what year of TNG that Alexander was introduced. Seems like Worf and Alexander's mom (name? senility strikes again) created Alexander in the first season. So that would put Alex in S3 or S4. I think that makes him even younger than I thought! Gotta go do my math now. (Be back with the answer in a year or so :lol:!)

Actually i just wanted to sat that in STTNG, any scene with worf walking down the corridor with lil' alexander was soooooo funny given the height difference!!:D :D

he just looked like a little dolly walking beside worf:D
 
Alexander first appeared in the fourth season episode 'Reunion' when K'Ehleryr returned, and was then killed by Duras, leaving Alexander with Worf.

And those Klingon/ human hybrid children do grow very fast, because Alexander was only concieved at the end of the second season, about one and a half years (2 years at maximum) earlier.

That episode was 'The Emissary'.
 
Hmmmm, still confused, er thinking. And it's only been a few months! :lol: I think I need the Idiot's Guide to Star Trek math and child aging!!!!!!

Anyway you figure it, Alexander aged 5 or more years in about 2 years. Just cannot buy it!

And I agree, he looked so cute with Worf. They were so different emotionally/mentally that they played off each other so well. And Alexander was so sweet and funny while Worf is gruff yet with a heart of gold.

I just love young Alexander.....

Whatever happened to him at the end of DS9? I still have yet to see the final season.......

according to memory alpha (star trek wiki)

klingon children mature far more quickly than human children. at the age of only one earth year a klingon child has the appearance a human child has at age four. by the age of eight earth years, a klingon attains the maturity a human reaches at age sixteen (TNG:reunion,DS9:sons and daughters)
