4.10 : Hush

In Sunnydale, no one can hear you scream. (OB)

Brill episode if you ask me! Best of the season?

Can't believe no-one has posted on this thread - I reckon this eppy has to be one of the best of season 4.

Those freaky men were just sooooo creepy and scary - I mean really frightening. They looked like they'd just been dug up !

It really showed the actors abilities - cos they couldn't rely on the one liners but had to use body language

As usual Spike still managed to make me laugh - the scene were Anya is feeding him the pigs blood (I think he was still tied up at this stage of series) and he gets covered in the blood, and then Xander walks in and things he is 'feeding' on Anya - priceless

Got to agree with you Brit Chick and Markpud. This is one of the best episodes of Season 4. I love it. Have seen it at least twice now.

Spike is great and funny. Just the way the gang communicate with each other is excellent. I've laughed every time its been shown.

annette :D

ooh yeah. Those guys were very well thought out, and this eppy was one of the scariest of all.

And i'd forgotten that comedy moment with Spike/Anya/Xander, class!!

I feel so left out. I'd heard a lot about this one and wanted to see it. :( FOX didn't show this episode and just skipped over it to the one about Faith.

Cheers,

Thats a shame Mything. Brilliant eppy.

annette :D

That's what I hear. Anything someone who hasn't gotten to see it should know to keep up with stuff that is going to happen?

Cheers,

I'm thinking that the only way I'll get to see it is to buy it on tape if it's available -- that and a few others FOX has skipped over -- like the Dracula one.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Cheers,

I finally figured out why Fox didn't show Hush, as well as the Dracula episode and a few others. UPN got the rights to show those eps instead. Hopefully they'll show Hush or release it to Fox sometime in the near future.

Cheers,

MythingLink - i noticed a similar thing here -- FX is running eps and skipped a bunch of the good ones -- like "Hush" -- and UPN ran them instead -- (btw - UPN ran them instead of running season 6 reruns -- grrrrr - i wanted to see season 6!)

anyway --

on to the ep -- i like this one -- very strange to not have 'lines' -- and it does show abilities of the actors (here is where that 'face acting' thing comes in really handy!) and that part w/ Anya/Spike/Xander is pretty funny!

oh - and the scene in the lecture hall w/ the overhead projector and Giles' drawings! too funny!! :)

no prob - they're the same company -- (i'm pretty sure) -- owned by the same ppl anyway ---

and did you know that FX cuts out about 2 1/2 additional minutes of each episode?? why?? the episodes on UPN run about 42.30 mins -- the ones on FX run, if you're lucky, about 40.00 mins (rough estimate) --- really annoying b/c FX has NO reason to cut more of the episode EXCEPT to add more ridiculously stupid commercials for junk no one cares about ---- it's bad enough that we get LESS show material now than we did several years ago, but then FX is allowed to cut more and add MORE commercials? (and in the most inappropriate places in the show too) --- hmmmm sounds like i need to have a chat w/ the FCC......

It isn't just Buffy ... every show once it goes to syndication has bits and pieces cut out for more commercial time. You know pretty soon an hour show is going to be 30 minutes of show and 30 minutes of commercials.

Cheers,

i know that the 'old' shows were hacked pretty bad b/c they were longer -- ie: when MacGyver 1st aired, it was closer to 45 minutes, but when USA picked it up, the eps were cut down to the 42 minute format --

i don't think there's a need to cut the stuff being produced now - b/c JAG on USA, doesn't get cut - i've only noticed the BIG difference w/ Buffy on FX - b/c Fox doesn't cut the eps it airs -

just watch the little minute counter on your VCR - for the eps of JAG i've cut commercials from - they come out right about 42 minues (w/ credits at both ends - a bit shorter w/o them); but Buffy, always hits right about 40 mins - w/o credits -- there's something fishy going on there ---

i know this has NOTHING to do w/ the episode, but it IS annoying --

back to the episode -------- i found it to be interesting - the idea very original - but i didn't think we got enough about the 'Gentlemen' in the episode -- it was more focused on the ppl not being able to speak --- (very cool, but i like 'info') --

Actually MacGyver eps were closer to 50 minutes in length originally. I think that hour long shows are now down to 42 minutes which includes credits.

Totally off topic, so I'll Hush now. ;)

Cheers,

i have a tape of an orig Trek ep - - and i think it's listed as 52 minutes --

so - over 30+ yrs - we've lost 10 minutes of actual programming per hour --- 10 minutes --- that's a lot!

anyway ---

back to "Hush" ----

i was a bit confused by the opening - the dream scene of Buffy's - she's in class and the prof has her lay on the desk and Riley kisses her --- what exactly is that about????

FX has the rights to all the eps through "The Gift" now - so we get to seem them in the order in which they should appear (except for that weird thing where they help 'Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered' to air on V's Day) --

anyway ---

saw it again -- and still love this episode--- it's such a great idea - no dialogue -- and music was used very well to 'keep the mood' of the plot ----

This is the first time I've seen Hush -- first time through FX couldn't show it.

Phenominal episode. A tribute to Joss and the cast for making this work. It could have turned into Keystone Cops very easily, but they kept up the 'horror' of it all the way through.

I especially liked all the little forewarnings that led up to everyone eventually losing their ability to speak.

I'm glad I finally got to see this because it was the episode that introduced Tara and Riley and Buffy finding out about each.

Cheers,
