3.06: Band Candy

This is one of my all-time favourite episodes, because it shows the grown-ups with their masks hanging loose. Though they are not behaving like teenagers, more like sexually active eight-year-olds.

Another scrap of evidence that Giles was brought up in the US - wrapping your cigarettes in your shirt sleeve is not a British habit. Or maybe he watched too much TV while he was trying to be cool.

But there is a flaw at the heart of the episode. A dozen vampires could just have walked out of the hospital with four babies: the whole band candy plot was OTT. The mayor has had more difficult things to explain away.

I don't care though, the episode is still great, especially when Buffy punches Ethan and Giles punches the air in triumph.

it was great fun, especially seeing Snyder behaving like one of the kids he despises so much...
Perhaps the mayor just enjoyed seeing chaos fall on his town, as I agree that it was overkill for a baby stealing cover-up...

I saw this eppy last night...finally, cos dmalfoy had never shut up about it! It ws so weird to see Giles without hie normal accent and acting so...abnormal for him! Have to agree that it was all a bit elaborate though...who would have stopped vampires stealing babies?

d'oh ok, i see waht you mean...but she would have been patrolling anyway....and it's not likely she would have been at the hospital, is it? :D

And it should be on again on Monday, which I'm thankful for. For some reason my VCR didn't record it. I've got 45 minutes of blank space where it should have been. :(

Cheers,

well - i agree that 4 or 5 vamps could have walked into the hospital and taken the babies -- but everyone would have noticed - and they would have cared --- they might have tried to stop them --- however, with everyone on the band candy - the vamps could walk in, swipe the babies, and leave and no one would even care --

i found Giles' regression amusing -- kept thinking to myself that he sounded like Spike --- (b/c he kinda did) --- very fun episode --

well-done episode ----

I liked Band Candy the first time I saw it and I still like it. I guess it's because of the Giles/Joyce thing. I'm not a shipper by any definition of the word, but I like those two and always wondered why they didn't become closer as friends.

HII ... I never thought about the resemblance to Spike that Ripper had, but you're right. There is a lot of Spike in Ripper or Ripper in Spike. ;) I'll bet Tony Head had a ball doing this episode because it was so unGiles.

Cheers,

PS. Now i can say that Buffy wasn't patrolling the hospital, she went there because of the plot to steal the babies. ;)

Cheers,

oh - i'll bet he had a ball too! wouldn't you? you play stuffy-Giles (not a bad thing - i love Giles), and you get this one chance in over 100 episodes (not at that time, but it gets to be that) to play the 'bad boy'?? (well - 'cept the Ripper stuff alluded to in an earlier ep) -- had to have been fun!

and no - i don't think Buffy was patrolling the hospital - it was b/c of the babies --- b/c she had her mother and Giles along on that trip ---

Yeah, she went to the hospital because of the babies.

And I liked this ep....tres amusing, and fun.

I especially liked the beating up of Ethan. *snerk*

yes - much fun --

been a while since i've watched this one -- but it's still funny!

just remember - don't buy and eat the band candy!

i thought this was reallly funny, but i hated all the Giles/Joyce stuff...

Giles doesn't wear tweed!!! i was beginning to wonder if he owned anything else...

I too was not keen on the Giles/Joyce thing, but, that may just be jealousy; cos Giles is such a cutie!!!

Re: " Giles doesn't wear tweed!!! i was beginning to wonder if he owned anything else..."
There's an episode where the Scoobs go looking for Giles and they find him singing and playing his guitar - he's in jeans and a sweater - he looks mighty fine!!!
