LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge) will be back on the Paramount lot next week to direct his second episode of Enterprise's first season.

Sources reveal that 'Fortunate Son,' the tenth episode of the season, was scheduled to start shooting on the 24th of September. It is not known whether this date will be delayed by last week's temporary suspension of filming, but any delay would likely not be more than a few days.

Little is known about the episode, except for the fact that it will see the Enterprise encountering an Earth cargo ship. When the cargo vessel is attacked, its middle-aged commander, Captain Keene, is seriously wounded. The ship's command is then assumed by its first officer, Ryan Cross, a man around 30 years of age who has spent his entire life on cargo ships. Tension arises in the Enterprise's interaction with the cargo ship, as the hostile Cross distrusts Archer and his crew.

LeVar Burton is the first director known to be helming two episodes during the first half of the season, showing the producers' faith in the actor-turned-director. Burton indeed is an experienced Trek director, having started eight years ago with TNG's 'Second Chances' and continuing on DS9 and Voyager. He was rumoured for a while to be in the running to direct Star Trek X, but that assignment has since been handed to Stuart Baird.

As usual, please be aware that Paramount has released no official plot info on this episode yet, and until that happens, any such info from unofficial sources should be treated as you would any rumour.

Intersting episode. I enjoyed getting to see more of Travis. Chance to find out more about his background and a little more history.

Also we got to meet another alien species.

Dont get to see this episode till saturday...eeee

i didn't really see all of this - i kinda watched, but was online at the time, so i didn't catch everything ---- and i missed it when it was on today -- (was either having dinner or watching a movie)

guess i'll catch the rerun ----

O my... could not do that.... cant be on the comp an watch it at the same time,... have to have my full attention of the tv... in case i miss something

ordinarily - i wouldn't either - i'd just be watching -- but i had some stuff i needed to do online -- and that was the only available window of opportunity to do so --- (b/c i absolutely WILL NOT miss Law & Order - yes, it ranks higher than ST on my list --- as does JAG - just the way it all works) --

o why word.... things rank higher than star trek....

I am soooooooo sorry that i just cant agree,,, no way..... LOL

The episode begins with some deckplating vibration on the 'Fortunate Son' a fairly modern freighter. I remember that Archer had the problem of deckplate vibrations in his own quarters, he never discovered the reason for it, even after crawling around on the floor. Obviously it's a serious design fault in all of these new vessels, faulty goods, they should send the Enterprise back to the shipyard for a full refund.

3 more NX ships are on the drawing board, apparently.

Archer never drinks on duty: the mission was over, he was a guest on another ship, surely he can let his hair down sometime.

BTW Why do none of the Enterprise's visitors ever finish their meals? (Vulcan captain, now the Fortunate Son's first officer, Ryan Cross.)

Since Starfleet is presumably one of the customers for the dilithium ore the freighters are carrying, shouldn’t they at least be aware of the Nausican campaign of harassment and theft? So shouldn't someone have briefed Archer, who apparently had never even heard of Nausicans.

Archer and Co. can communicate with the Nausicans via Universal Translator, but when did the freighter get one, or are we to assume that Ryan’s hostage was speaking English during the interrogation? Everyone speaks English it seems, must be that great Radio & TV we've been sending out to space for the last 200 years!

Well as everybody is having a pop!

Isn't there any rough edges in this crew?
Archer is more Picard than Kirk, negotiating a temporary truce with a real problem. Kirk at least would have tried to solve the problem. They had the base of a real menace to trade in the sector and all he did was allow it to continue.

BTW. What was the result of the four torpedoes that were fired. Obviously they didn't do any serious damage, despite the confident assertion that the pirates ships would not be able to withstand the weapons. Or perhaps Enterprise needs some of those plasma cannon to have a fighting chance?

Thinking about it, Enterprise's Torpedo locker must be looking rather empty by now as well. Another five spent with little to show for results.

Not wildly convinced by Travis' appeal to Cross either. It was too simple, but I dare say it will grow on me. Or his discussion with Archer when he put forward the Boomer's perspective. No Emotion
