Hello.... this is your exhausted reporter....
Sept 22, Gatecon Day 4: Wow! The line-ups to the front row seats started at 7:30! And I got there at 8:30. The panels are supposed to start at 9:00! Ahem, the first panel consisted of Tony Amendola, Don S Davis and Eric Avari. Three delightful gentlemen with delightful anecdotes of their careers during and before Stargate. Then a surprise visit from Amanda Tapping.... who spent almost an hour with us! (On her anniversary weekend, no less!) She's funny and gracious; we had loads of laughs when JR Bourne showed up to campaign for the return of Martouf. The morning was completed with a panel of gentlemen who are the stand-ins for Messrs RDA (who has two stand-ins!), C Judge and M Shanks.
After lunch, the first panel consisted of Peter Williams and Alexis Cruz. The finale was Teryl Rothery, who received many gifts and tributes from her fans... lots of "turtle-related" souvenirs. (And I can't remember if we had the combo of JR and J Avacone in the morning or the afternoon..... my memory of Day 4 is fuzzy, but I'm going to check my photos or someone can correct me! I should have made notes! But I was too busy with my camera and laughing! )
And a highlight was a directors panel with Martin Wood, Peter Deluise, Andy Mikita, William Gereghty and Peter Woeste. We had a blast as they decribed what really happened during the production of certain episodes like "Wormhole X-treme".
After the dinner break was the costume judging. There were lots of terrific outfits! The winner was a Nem-lookalike complete with latex head mask. It looked pretty authentic to me! Runners up included a lovely Hathor and a Sam in Air Force uniform and another Sam in "that dress" from Emancipation.
Then on to the charity auction. About $45,000 Canadian was raised for "Make a Wish Foundation". All the actors (except AT) were present as auctioneers or models for the auction items. My favourite part was a certain "general" in Hathor's wig!!!! Boy, can that man blush! I hope someone posts a picture of it!!! Auction items included posters, autographed pictures from the SG-1 cast, Stargate SG-1 trading cards, DVDs, director's chairs belonging to CJ and AT, props (Hathor's wig worn by Suanne Braun, alien guns, goa'uld control devices, THE CRYSTAL SKULL, etc), clothing (autographed hats, t-shirts, jackets and pants) and a Gatecon autographed quilt.
