The biggest movie and TV authority on the Internet IMHO, the Internet Movie Database (imdb) has added the following credit to Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

Shannen Doherty .... Sarah Giles (2001- )
 
What does that mean? Is SD joining the cast of BTVS? Hope not - I'm not too fond of her.
 
don't they already have enough main cast members? besides how would she fit? i guess she could be like a sister or something sent to take care of dawn....
 
given her age i'd guess she'd be (Rupert) Giles' niece or something like that....
guess we'll find out when it airs...
 
giles could always have like a secret ex-wife no one knows about. it's not exactly like he's been forthcoming with info on his past.
 
that could be too. basically anything's possible. personally i think she'd be like a cousin or a sister or something

Shannon is in her early 30s now. Giles is in his 40s. She couldn't be his daughter. :alienooh:
 
like they care. like she was really 16 when she was on 90210? nobody in hollywood plays their own age. i don't think she'd be his daughter, but it is possible. not probable, just possible.
 
Shannan is 30 (12 April 1971). Anthony is 47 (20 February 1954). SO it is possible for her to be his love child, even without cheating their ages.

They have removed all references to her appearing on Buffy from the show's listing and from her bio.

Well, they may have gotten some advance notification and posted the info too soon, thereby creating a spoiler. It's possible that Shannan will still be on Buffy and her credit will re-appear.

Or maybe they got some bad info or where fooled by a clever hoaxster.

Only time will tell.
 
Maybe she turns up and thats why Giles leaves again. He`s only a guest star at the moment and will not be in the entire remainder of the season.
She could be his sister or an ex-wife. Personally, I don`t think Giles is the marrying kind, specially not with his less than shiny past. I think it is far more likely that she`s his sister or something...making her his daughter would be interesting...play havoc with that little father/daughter thing he`s got going with Buffy.
Only problem is it could bring up the whole cliche, overused 'where have you been all my life etc etc' scene, which is really a pet hate of mine in TV cos they`re always the same.
 
i agree that it would be more likely for her to be a sister. maybe she's going to kind of take over when giles leaves. though i don't know that shannon wants to do that much sci fi anymore.

i just had a thought. shocking, i know, but here it is: what if giles got married back when he was the ripper. the girl could have been part of his group and just as bad as he was. hmmm, just a thought.....it's gone now....ahhhhhh, back to normalcy!
 
It has been said, I think it was one of the producers or possibly Joss, that the Scooby Gang don`t really need a Watcher anymore as they`re old enuff to look after themselves.
So replacing Giles would be pointless and, lets face it, they could never get a better watcher.
I`m sticking to my theory that she is atleast something to do with the reason he leaves and they both go back to England.
