Life after Daniel

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

Okay, so we know that Daniel is leaving (in whatever way). How is SG1 and SGC for that matter, going to react? Are they going to mourn/miss him in one episode and then it's out of sight, out of mind? As if Daniel never existed? Never mention him, never say they need him, his expertise, his knowledge, his insights, his moral integrity? Are they going to "punish" the character because the actor decided to go?

What I am trying to say, it's that Daniel was a very integral part of SG1 and SGC. And his absence should not be dismissed or ignored. I truly feel if they are going to be realistic and logical that there will be consequences to Daniel's absence. What will happen next time SG1 encounters an alien race with advance technology that they want to share with the Taur'i? Is Jack going to jump happily, without any thought or doubts? We know that Sam and Teal'c interests do not lay on this matter, they will follow Jack blindly. Sam is more interested in doing her science stuff without thinking it out it could have consequences (Red Sky). And Teal'c, (pardon me, T-man's fans), seems to follow his leader blindly as he did with Apophis.

And how about Daniel's expertise. LIke Jack said in Crystal Skull, the man we need is Daniel. Are they going to dismiss his extraordinary skills here too?

My point is that they can't jump into a new SG1 member as if everything (forget about relationships) will function perfectly. If they are going to be consistent with the story line, where Daniel repeatedly function as the conscience of SG1 and SGC, there would have to be consequences. If they are not, many Daniel fans (if not the majority) will find the results preposterous.

The fact that you doubt the realism of doing that makes me think that the writers will see it too. They implied at the con that Daniel does not die and instead of being killed off (and making his appearance in a full movie next year less plausable or less real) is put into a background position in the SGC. We can expect him to still be in the mix much like General Hammond or Dr. Fraiser or Sgt. Siler. I think he will still be translating stuff, still being a moral voice for the SGC, but also maybe "invisibly" off on remote digs with some other SG team as he'd done in the past. The new guy won't swipe any thunder from Daniel. I fully expect all the SG-1 team members to be constantly freaking out at what the new guy does because the new guy will have new ways. All the characters have changed because of living and working with Daniel. I think Sam and Jack have learned a lot from Daniel and will be more aware of situations that were once beyond their understanding and notice. It wouldn't be such a great show if all the characters hadn't learned something from working with one another. And I'm sure there has to be a few "he's not Daniel" lines and situations. I'm looking forward to see how everyone bends their personalities and learns more.

i don't think they'll take it too badly, i mean, he has resigned 3 times before...

When did Daniel resigned before? Because as far as I remember he when he resigned in Forever in a Day it was on a dream/vision, whatever. Jack on the other hand, has really resigned before. If I am wrong please tell me.

Hello,
I have edited the name of this thread, and included some spoiler spaces in a post... just so people who dont want to know about daniel...know not to read :)

Life after Daniel.

Well, I don't believe the quality of the show will suffer much. He has agreed to do a few episodes, after all. That will give them more time to concentrate on developing the new character(s). Hopefully.

Daniel's death

Too bad the rumored death scene is a complete ripoff from Spock's Death in Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. Wow, you would think that they would be more original.

He tried to resign in Need cos he was addicted to the sarcophagus. I don't of any other times but he's been dead several times already... :dead:
PS I wish he wasn't leaving at all :(
