Episode 5.01 "Unearthed"

"As the fifth season begins Renee desperately searches for Liam and unwittingly unearths the Atavus, a deadly new race of aliens intent on destroying humanity."

This episode started out with Renee looking for Liam. She goes to a meeting of the board at Doors and they give her a choice to give up the search or resign. She resigns. Then she goes and rents a sub and STreet brings her a crew. Renee is unhappy to find out they used to be Taelon Volunteers but ends up taking them anyway. (This part all makes sense to me as we know from the end of last season that REnee loved LIam, even if she never told him so).

They get to the Kamtcha peninsula and pick up a global signature. They find the regeneration chamber under all the larva and free it from the larva. Then they connect the docking ring and open the chamber. Then end up releasing the ATavus who attack them. The only thing of Liam's they find is his global.

I had some problems here. First Street completely freaking out when the Atavus attacked Gems. She had a gun but she didn't even try to shoot it. That just didn't match the image I had of street from the previous season. Also when Renee kissed Keller just didn't seem in character. After all Renee is searching for Liam who she loves.

What happened when the Atavus Howlyn attacked Renee. He made the comment that she was different from other humans, how and why?

Another seeming inconsistency was the bit with the mother ship. At the end of last season the ANA launches 4 missles. We see one hit and cause damage with Sandoval being injured. The ship was almost out of power and they (the Jaridians) diverted power from the shields to the ID portal to escape. So how did the ship survive the other attacks and how did it have the power for Sandoval to destroy the shuttle and then transport the Chamber to the mother ship. Also how was he hooking in to their on ship transmissions to see what was happening, did one of the crew work with him?

Overall I found it a rather dissappointing episode to start the season.

God, I read that review thinking it was about Stargate, and got really confused! Sigh... That ep was on 'Sandoval's Run' (?) where his brainwashing got ... undone, and I so meant to watch it, an dI so forgot. Argh! That's a really good ep, isn't it?

OK, this post has nothing to do with this thread. Let me put in a relevant question...

erm...

;)

Sound like a good ep, cos it's got adventure, no doubt sfx, and omance, it just seems half of it isn't for the right characters!

btw Mark, the Sky scifi channel also has EFC is case ya didn't know:D

It is definetly an interesting episode. If it wasn't for knowing the characters from previous episodes I would probably have enjoyed it more.

Sandoval is the only main character left from the 5th season. That just seems so strange that the only one left from the beginning is one of the bad guys.

This episode has me wanting more of season 5. I could watch this ep. Again.

I think that that Reene kissing templar kiss. Was like when james Bond does the same thing to his damsel of the flim. it was only for good luck.

I thought it was in chartacter for street not to fire the gun. Most of seaon 5 she stayed behind a computer screen. She didn't deal with the mega bad dudes often or never alone or even with a gun.

I like the fact that Jayne is getting a chance to shine. I have been a fan of hers since "Nightman".
