Thomas Vitale, Senior VP of Acquisitions, Schedules and Program
Planning at SCI Fi, said at chat on www.sci-fi.com on 10/11/01

I (yeah, I sat thru the chat!) asked...
Q: What Input, creative or financial, will SCI-FI have in the 6th
season of Stargate?

A: "Both creative and financial. We are helping to fund that season
which is why we are getting the episodes before any other channel.
When you fund a series, you have some creative input. That said, the
Stargate team is so good at what they do and are making such a strong
series that the best thing Sci-Fi can do, is step to the side and let
the Stargate team do what they do. We bought the series because we
like it and have such confidence in the team. We can't wait for its
premiere (probably in June 02)."

I wouldn't mind SciFi having some input. Season 5 has been a disappointment for me (don't come unglued, ya'll. I still watch like you do, but I think Season 5 has been less than what we've seen in the past. I think new ideas from SciFi would be a good idea).

Here it comes . . .

:D

I certainly hope they get back to the original premise. The series has completely lost the sense of wonder and adventure it had in the first few seasons. Season 5 has been a combination of 'Oops, Sam lost another boyfriend' and 'X-Files lite'.

It's what I have been asking for and arguing about since I started posting on Stargate lists and forums, and what a hammering I have had for even daring to suggest that we should perhaps move away from poor old Sam and her black widow personality and not get so involved in the X files stuff.

I am amazed and gratified that so many are actually coming round to realise that I wasn't talking through the hole in my rear end when I was pleading for some balance and a return to the original concept and premise of Stargate.

I would welcome any such ideas from Sci Fi channel especially if they increase the mystery, menace, wonder and fascination of the original idea behind the movie and the series.

  ;)

I totally agree with you (and Anni)

I think that season five had been a big let down so far...I still watch it like you guys but its just not what it used to be...the best episode so far has to be The Summit...but lets face it they are gunna wimp out in Last stand...we can see it coming..

Lets hope season six will have more to offer!

Well, the Season 5 forum which I have only been overseeing but NOT posting on over the past few weeks while I undergo my chemo, has been very quiet really. Apart from me and two others having an amusing argument over this Corin Nemec guy over the last day or so, the only scintillating discussion that's taken place are the comments for the Summit episode.

Possible spoilers follow for those who have not seen Summit

Unfortunately, I have a horrible suspicion that Pamie is right. They're going to wimp out in Last Stand. I think that they'll kill the remaining System Lords, but Osiris, Jacob and Daniel will escape, thus leaving the whole thing open for SG1 (all four of them) to have a pitched battle with the massed hordes of Anubis in Season Six. And of course SG1 will be triumphant, Anubis will die in a hail of bullets and SG1 will have saved the world again. Thus leaving the earth conspiracies, X File stuff for the film and then they'll turn inward and probably under the water for the Atlantis thing, in which everyone will finally find out about the Ancients.

By that time I will probably not be watching it anyway.

You're absolutely right Anni. I too am sick of Sam's love life/Conspiracy Theory storylines.

I finally caught some of the 1st season episodes. I was surprised to see how much better they were. I hadn't realized how much the show has gone downhill. The sense of wonder and adventure is gone. I can only hope the SciFi channel gets back to the original concept.

Actually, I'm finding stories that are a whole lot more interesting, with better plotlines and better character development among fan fiction, both here and elsewhere, than I've been seeing in the T.V. programme recently...

I read a really good one the other day which was set in a kind of A.U. Roman Empire in the reign of Tiberius. Claudius figured strongly in the story and Caligula showed his face too.

The author had clearly done some serious research which made the scenario very realistic, and there was a nice twist at the end too.

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut - off to write a little more ;)

I must say the spoilers I've seen for most of the sixth season look very promising (with one exception). This is terrific in my book since I pretty much despise season 5.

If I want conspiracy, I will turn on the X-files. Why call it "Stargate" if you have an epy that you don't even turn on the Gate?

. . . and I really HATE John DeLancie. I have to see Q every where DeLancie turns up.

I don't mind Sam's life, with some love life thrown in, but her love life is not the only interesting thing about her character (and the guys usually turn out to be Star Trek red shirts).

I don't know what, if any, influence on the writing the SciFi Channel will have (or that Mallozi would admit to), but it appears that everyone was getting to leave at the BEGINNING of season 5. Now, if they want funding for a movie, season 6 has to bring in the viewers, demonstrating that the fans ($) will go to the box office. A little incentive, don'tcha think?

I am hopeful for decent epys for the first time in a long while. I guess we'll see.

Anni, I'vr always loved your ranting & agreed with much of it. I think though, I've been holding onto that sliver of hope that the writers won't let us down. I did have much greavances with S5 but I did enjoy bits here & there. I think I liked Between 2 Fires the best though that may have been influenced by my newest enphatuation with Narim & the fact that it was filmed up at SFU. Anyhoo, the forum wouldn't be the same with out ya & here's to hoping the writers don't let you down in S6... ;)

Hee hee...... it's always nice to be wanted Skoon. I always think my rants at least fire up some interesting, if not passionate, discussions!

Well at least they didn't decimate the System Lords at the summit, but that won't stop them from doing it in Season 6! I am a little disappointed in the depiction of Anubis though.....he looks like ET under that blanket he's wearing!

:D

Ya think?! :D Just don't join 'Ranters Anonymous' - we'd hate you to become anodyne! :D Oh, and of course you're wanted. A loaf of bread without a little leavening turns out rather flat, don't you think? :)

Someone somewhere else suggested that he's actually one of the Nazgul. I could see his point
