If I have to choose I'd say the vampires. LKHs vampires are incredibly powerful and so very diverse.

I don't dislike the lycanthropes, in fact I generally like them. Richard annoys me but the rest of the wolves seem normal, and very real. I like them. I like Raphael, the Rat King a great deal for his loyalty and quiet strength. The wereleopards are impossible for me not to like, with their insecurity and fragility. But the vampires have JC and Asher. They have powers of the mind. They have enormous strength, and they still have a great deal of personality and individualism.

I have to vote for the vampires, what can I say love Jean-Claude personality. He reminds me of another bad boy vampire, Lestat. Anyway I love vampire stories so I have to go with them.

I voted shapeshifters, and it wasn't because I like Richard better than Jean-Claude. I don't. Jean-Claude is my favorite character. I did it because I like the idea of being a shapeshifter better than a vampire. I would like everyone to note my using "shapeshifter" rather than "lycanthrope." I like the idea of being a shapeshifter, but not a lycanthrope. I figure between the Lamia and Naga there must be an immortal shapeshifter I could really get into being. :evil:

Although I always have prefer the vampires, I have to say that I love the way Laurell portrays the shapeshifters. One of the things that really hooked me with her books was the diversity that she have in that world. Very interesting species.
