GateCon
Just for some FYI:
#1: We only sold about 650 tickets this year and, unlike Wolf, all the funds have to be used up front to pay hotel and actors. We don't have the financial backing Wolf does: they can take out a loan whenever they want to.
#2: If you walk up slowly to one of our guests [actors] and say 'Hi', you'll probably be okay. If you just come up out of nowhere and no one sees you walk up, then it can be hard on our folks - we are there to help the guest get around and watch out for them. Come on nice and slow and let us see you and they'll be vey few problems. The only exceptions are if we *have * to move a guest somewhere within a specific time frame. We did provide out own security this year. MGM didn't foot for any pros like last year. However, our staff worked closely with the pros last year and are very carefully screened for the work they do.
I was 'Guesting' Colin Cunningham when he dropped by and there was no problems with anyone coming up to talk with him as long as he let me have the sign that it was oaky. Sometimes the guests want a 'time out' and we respect that. Teryl was very tired most of the weekend - being with child will do that - an we screened a lot of passers-bywhen someone wanted to stop and chat when she'd give one of us the high scign that she needed to sit down.
Please remember we 'work' for the guests. If they want a time out, we honor that and keep folks back.
I might also add: try to keep track of 13+ guests who decide to wander off, roam around and not tell someone, etc. It get's very nerve wracking.
#3: VIP tickets are sold for a reason. So we know how much food to buy from the hotel, how big a bar to set up, etc. Yes, VIP's get extra special treatment. We have anywhere from 10-15 actors, not counting crew and other production staff from just one show in one location for 4 days. There's a lot of logistics there. Actually, a lot of folks got to spend some quality time at a Wenesday night fund raising party for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosus Foundation with JR and Colin.
There is at least one e-mail list on Yahoo especially devoted to GateCon and it's activities. It's a good place to get info and find out all the various activities going on, last minutes VIP ticket sales, etc. '

I'm sorry you found your time at GateCon that unfriendly. I willingly accept all feedback and will include yours in my 'after action' report for next year. Not every con is for everybody. GateCon is a fan run con for fans and we were the first ever all Stargate con. Wolf Productions is a professional convention group. I centainly know they have experience on us and funding. But I do believe if it weren't for that first GateCon, Wolf might not have discovered how many people were interested in Stargate:SG-1.
Being the trail breaker does mean a rough road, but we learn more each and every year and next year will be better than ever.
