Voyager's Captain Janeway is quite a hit with her British fans. UK satellite and cable broadcaster Sky One is dedicating a whole night of programmes to the coffee-slugging character played by Kate Mulgrew.
"Next week, Sky One pays homage to the brilliant and level-headed Captain Janeway in a special collection of Star Trek: Voyager episodes, selected for their focus on the death-defying female," announced the channel.
Sky will screen three Voyager episodes which focus on the Captain next Monday, November 5th. Kicking off the celebration of all things Janeway is 'Deadlock,' an episode from the series' second season. What better treat for Janeway fans than the moment when two versions of the Captain come face to face on screen? Deadlock is set to air at 20:00.
Following 'Deadlock' will be the season three episode 'Sacred Ground.' In this episode a sceptical Janeway gets in touch with her spiritual side, causes an inter-planetary incident, saves a crew member and still gets home to Voyager in time for a cup of coffee. Finishing off the evening will be 'Concerning Flight' at 22:00. The Captain gets into trouble thanks to a special brand of space muggers and the intervention of her hologram of Leonardo da Vinci, in this episode from season five.
The channel also confirmed that no date for the premiere of Enterprise has been set, despite some online rumours to the contrary. The series is expected to air in the UK first on Sky One some time early next year.
'Janeway Night' comes just a month after the Captain topped a BBC poll of the nation's favourite Captains. BBC 2 held a nationwide poll as part of their 'Star Trek Night' in September. The actor behind each Trek Captain nominated their favourite episode, and viewers voted for the Captain they wanted to see more of. After over 100,000 votes had been cast, Kate Mulgrew's nominated episode 'Counterpoint' won by an overwhelming majority. It seems that the Brits prefer a nice cup of coffee to tea in the 21st - or 24th - century.
