According to ITN News Direct Star Wars fans in Atlanta have already begun to queue outside cinemas in the US, even though the film is still 4 months away.

Is anyone here in a queue yet?

What are they in line for? Just to buy tickets? Doesn't seem like you'd have to wait in a queue just to get tickets this far in advance. Strange....

Star Wars have already started lining up to see Episode II--Attack of the Clones, even though the film doesn’t open until May 16, Variety reported. The trade publication reported that a half-dozen avid fans began forming the line at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Street, just outside Hollywood's famed Mann’s Chinese Theater.

The group told Variety that they plan to spend the next month and a half in line to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation and are fielding calls from the media about Star Wars. "We never run out of things to do," said Rik Carter, who queued up for The Phantom Menace three years ago. "The phone never stops ringing."

"Queues are unique to film" - Lucas

George Lucas remains gently amused at fans who line up for months to be first in line for Episode II screenings.

"I think in anything you're going to find fans. There are fans of barbed wire and they have conferences. Star Wars fans are not nearly as obsessive out there as soccer fans. It's just that this is unique to film.

"But what is it in the end? It's a kind of a mini-Woodstock. Why do they sit out there on the street? Why not? They're all college students. They don't have anything else to do. They're allowed to cut classes, hang out, chase girls and have the media come and talk to them all the time (while they) camp on Hollywood Blvd. Who wouldn't? It's fun!"
