I got the feeling that this episode should have taken place before Boone's Assassin. It is in this episode we are introduced to the other hives and the mapping crystal.
Renee isn't very sympathetic to Street. After all she struggled with her attraction to Howlyn. I would think she could have been more sympathetic at the end.
