The JLA has been an ongoing comic series since before my dad was born. It's still going monthly today. Anyway, I'm going to asume this thread is about the JL cartoon that premiered on CN last weekend. That being said...
Superman
I don't like the way his character is portrayed here at all. Visually, he sucks. He is drawn far too top heave, and then he has a bulky cape on top of it. The shading makes it look like his hair is going grey, and he just overall looks old. His voice in no way fits the character, and only adds to the illusion that he is getting on in years.
Batman
So many people have complained about his decision to not be a real member of the league. In reality, this was the best possible thing to do with his character. Batman has always been a loner, and joining a team would not be him(especially as early on as this series takes place). They used the same VA as in his own show and Batman Beyond, which was a great move. Visually, the only problem I have is with his mask. The ears are too big and wild.
Flash
Every team need a "fun one", and the Flash was a good choice for this role. He is being treated as a well balanced character, without being torn apart for the sake of a storyline.
Wonderwoman
Diana's origion was altered in that she did not earn the right to leave Pasadice Island through competition, but I don't think this was so bad. She is finally recognized with the ability to fly, and a very "head on" attitude. Finally, we see a TV depiction of WW that isn't all about playing it smart with bracelets, truth, and invisible jet.
Green Lantern
Being a GL fan, I at first thought this was going to suck. They brought in John Stewart as GL just so the team would be racially balanced with a black man in it. To my great surprise, they actually make his character work. Though he seems to just come out of nowhere, his history is delved into in the forst eps after the premier. My only complaint thus far is that GL needs to create objects with the ring instead of just shooting a genetic beam...it'll give new fans the wrong idea about the ring's powers.
Hawk Girl
I can understand wanting to even out the team gender wise, but she seems to just be there for the sake of being there. All her character has been seen doing thus far is screaming as she hits something wwith her mace. I really really hope they develope her character/history/origion before she becomes the joke of the series.
Martian Manhunter
First off, they have yet to refer to him as this name. Kind of odd, since there are two Johns on the team. Anyway, the character setup/origion are good, and they made him fit in with the premier story arch. The one complaint I have so far is with his powers/weaknesses. Yes he can fly and become intangable, but they're treating it as if that's all he can do. MM has all of Superman's powers, plus intangability & telepathy & shape changing...and is in no way able to tolerate fire(yert he has been around open flames several times thus far). I just hope they do not loose anything of the character.
...on a side note, I am incredibly glad to see that the A was dropped from the team name. It has long since been my belief that they should not be called the Justice LEague of America since they are not strictly an American based/limited to team...hell, they aren't even confined to this planet! Going with just Justice League was the best decision, IMO.
...for those of you in the US, JL is on CN Mondays at 9:30 PM.
