1940'S Stargate?

Another "what if": If the the SG-1 story had taken place in the 1940's (or even 1950's), how would things have gone considering the level of technology then? Imagine jack as a Colonel in the US Army Air Force; would he have had a more militaristic attitude? There would have probably been no women at all on the team, and how would Franklin D. Roosevelt have handled things (assuming he was privy to this information)?

there was a DS9 episode that tried this sort of thing, the ferengi went back in time to around then. Quite a good episode if i remember right.

The DS9 episode was "Little Green Men" and the Ferengi became the Roswell Aliens in 1947. But that was just played for laughs and contained all the clichés possible.

It would be interesting to do it 'for real' -- say the gate was used by Catherine and Ernest then not used again until the 1980's.

I have heard that doing 1940's period drama is very difficult though, compared to doing an earlier costume drama, it is hard to get it completely accurate, and there are too may people still around who remember it 'for real'.

I'm not sure that a woman would be a major on the Stargate project in the '40's?

and the security may not be as tight,

there might be more civillians on the project

It's amazing how far technologically advanced we've become in the last 100 years, and it keep going at a rapid rate!

Would we have been that technologically advanced in the 40's to work out all that stargate travelling stuff?
Carter still "theorises" half the stuff today!

If the gate had been discovered while the war was still in progress, everyone would have been looking for military applications almost immediately. Jack would be wearing a cool (I think) set of "pinks and greens" and defeating the Nazis and Japanese would be foremost on his mind. Heck, maybe they could link up with the "Philadelphia Experiment" crowd and extrude a Destroyer Escort through the gate!
