Anyone interested in a virtual SG-1 season? Me and my partner have been thinking of putting one up in January on Spacemonkey's Gate, but I thought I'd see if anyone was interested first... I know, I know, picky...

And if so, would it be a season with or without Daniel? Anyone interested, or is it an idea without interest?

Great, thanks Spooky!:D :rolly2: :D :rolly2: :D :rolly2: :D
Yes, anyone else?
Come now, don't be shy! I think the limit of people are gonna be about 22-24, so hurry up while there's still room!! Or something like that...

okay - let's see if the compy will cooperate this time and not lock up in the middle of my post!

okay - I think the idea of a VS for SG-1 is Great! however, i won't be jumping on board, just yet --- for a couple reasons -->

1) - had a bad VS experience once - don't wanna go down that road again just yet.

2) -they're harder to get started while the show is still running - (they're hard to get started anyway) --

my suggestion would be, during the series run of season 6, do all of your planning - get everything in order and set up and as much ready to go as you possibly can, then start running your VS once the show has concluded ---

one other potential downfall, is that while the show is still running, your VS might not get the attention you want for it --

seriously, i'm not tring to put a damper on your idea -- i think it's great --- just speaking w/ the voice of experience here ----

however, if you want more help - or advice, ideas, etc -- let me know -- i'll help if i can -----

I wish you luck in your endeavor and hope it's as successful as you want it to be! it's hard work, but when you get the feedback from the fans telling you how much they appreciate you -- it makes it all worth it ------

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, if you change your mind do let me know.
Yeah, I can imagine that they're hard to get started, that's why I tried breaching the subject here, to see if there's actually any interest.
Thank for the support, but I should warn you, you keep it up, I'll talk you into joining eventually... *VEG* ;)

well, since I've just seen this thread :D, I'd just like to ask how itz goin' ?! :)

Well, a virtual season is sort of a Round Robin, except that each part is an ep instead. The parts have to base on each other, like a RR, but they don't have to continue right of. (naturally):alienooh: :alienooh: :alienooh:

And how it's going... Well, not going to start on it yet, we have a huge xmas update on Spacemonkey's Gate that we're trying to prepare, so this has a lower priority. And I'm still checking how many that's interested...

yeah - a VS is similar to a RR -- but it has more structure and generally a 'real', planned out direction (or story arc).

for it to be successful -- writing a bunch of stories and slapping them together won't do it --- each story has to be planned w/ all previous canon material - both from the show (whatever you choose to use) and your series - taken into account

keeping the entire staff on the same page is important - everyone needs to know what's going on -- and needs to be involved in most of the decision making -- some things need to be left to the 'PTB' of the VS -- the top people -- otherwise you'll get an anarchical situation ---

one more thing --- in case anyone is thinking of taking a 'shipper' route with the stories -- especially with THIS show -- make sure you approach such a topic very carefully -- remember - b/c these characters are military (speaking of Jack and Sam) - there are rules that cannot be broken w/o risk of court martial --- (this is just a general bit of info to keep in mind when planning your project)

2 things that are necessary for a VS to be successful -- cooperation and determination --

it's a tough job -- but if you're persistant - you CAN make it work!! i've seen it happen!!

again -- i'll wish you good luck!

Shipper stuff.... Does one have to have that??? *whines*

Jessa not around? Waiting for the strike to come... ;)

Well, personally I'm a J/Der, but even if Daniel is in the season, realistically, he and Jack would never get together on the show. And I think that the S/J stuff has pretty much been explored to it's limit in season 4, that's about as far as they could go.

Don't get me wrong, I definately want more than just the team going to some planet blowing things up, but I doubt we'll have any romance... Unless Teal'c decides to go steady with someone...
:D

I for one love smarm, and I think that will do just fine.

good -- get your plans all set up --

get input on everything ---

get people involved --

btw - you can do it w/ much fewer than 24 ppl --

here's what you'll probably need:

1 Big Wig - person who makes the big decisions (maybe 2 - this is like the Exec Producer)

1 Editor - in charge of making sure the 'episodes' are in their best possible condition b4 being 'aired'

1 Continuity Editor - this is the person who makes sure canon rules of both the tv series and the Virtual series aren't broken - you may want to break this down and have one person handle the tv series stuff and one handle the VS stuff)

1 web designer - type person -- in charge of keeping the site where your episodes air running and looking good -

then -- you'll need these --

Writers -- several -- it can be done w/ 4 or 5, but more is better.

Beta Readers -- several -- probably at least as many as you have writers (and some ppl can work double jobs) -- the betas do a first run read of the story before it is sent to the editor

Promotions -- someone to be the big push for the series - the loudmouth who runs around the internet promoting the series

graphics -- someone to make piccies and such - (unless you have one ambitious web designer person to handle this too) --

and these are just suggestions --- you can add or delete any jobs you wish -----

if you want a really good example of a VS --- The Sentinel VS Season 6

this is one of the best i've seen on the web -- they even have commercials between the sections of the episodes!! hehe!

Wow...
Thank H2, this is sounding more and more fun by the second... :D

And the commercials was cool, *lol*

Well, looking at your list, at the moment I might be able to scrape forward... 6 of those mentioned things...

okay - more help to get ya started --

start a mailing list -- to get all your potential staff members in one place so you can discuss what you're planning to do --

yahoogroups is pretty much the only place left to start one --

there was also a site called 'smartgroups.com' -- but i'm not sure if it's back up from 'redesign' yet or not ----

and - The Sentinel VS -- it's great! i love their commercials! i haven't been over there to read in a while -- haven't had much fic-reading time ---- but i read all of the first VS season -- haven't read much of the 2nd one ---- maybe i'll get around to it someday --

Hmm... Good idea... Will do that after xmas...

But still have to make people notice it.

if you have a way to put a sig on your emails - use that --

or - manually tag it to every post you make on every SG-1 related mailing list you're on ----

have ppl who have SG-1 sites put little 'mailing list' buttons on their sites ---- promotion is the key!

Hmm... I don't know if I can add anything to the sigs on my mails... Yahoo isn't very reliable.... I'll try and start some stuff up ad see how things turn out...

But people may still express their interest here *hint hint*

yes - they might --- :)

enjoy your holidays and get all geared up to kick it into motion after the new year ----

have fun!!
