Ok, having finally aquired "Children of the Gods" on DVD and watched it for the first time ............. (strange i've seen almost all of S4 but not S1 ep1 !!:D ) I've just got a few questions, being picky and that ...........
The 7 glyphs that Feretti saw Apophis dial on Abydos, he showed them to Jack and Sam when he regained conciousness but the last symbol, the point of origin, doesn't match the point of origin that Daniel had figured out previously in the original movie. Forgive me if I'm wrong but like Earth with the Earth's PoO, doesn't the Abydos one remain the same whenever they dial from there ? Also having been given those glyphs (for Chulak), assuming they are correct, how do they figure out the ones to dial from Earth? Because isn't the sequence different depending on what corner of the galaxy ur dialing from ? I think, or maybe not - Not sure about that. I will provide a screen shot of Ferretti's glyph pattern later if neccessary.
Second, we are constantly told that direction of travel in the wormhole is uni-directional. In that case shouldn't it be that as soon as they set foot or head or whatever in through the event horizon, they shouldn't be able to take it out ? Notice in I think "the enemy within" Teal'c and Kawalski (possessed) fought in front of the stargate and Kawalski's head went in and out of the event horizon several times and in the original movie, Daniel put his hand in and out several times too, doesn't that count as travelling the other way cuz molecular deconstruction has to occur straight away as where else would their hand / face go ?
I know that this is just a TV show, but I'm being picky so :blah:  :wink2:

I think he would of just told them the first 6 symbols and then they can use earth as a PoO. The PoO symbol can look like anything.

Anyway he could not show them the Abydos PoO because that symbol is not on the earth dialing computer program!

As for the Event Horizon thing. I am not sure but I think As long as there is something left outside the event horizon that is DIRECTLY connected to the something inside the event it will not start sending matter.

I think sg14ever is right about matter not getting transferred if it is directly connected with something outside. You also see it in the Stargate movie, when Daniel sticks his head in and then as soon as he's entirely inside, we see him whiz across the wormhole. Also in "Shades of Grey" (season 4) near the end when the Asguard are taking back the alien technology and O'Neill dials to earth, saying "when they stop taking stuff they're gonna start taking people. Now you can go with me, or with the Asguard. I'll be holding the door open so you can't go anywhere else." and then you see on earth O'Neill with his hand in the event horizon. That's what he meant by holding the door open. So as ling as his hand was in the event horizon, but not really in transit, that maintains a wormhole between the two gates.
But in The Enemy Within, when Teal'c has Kawalsky's head inside, Teal'c had to tell them to shut it down. I think that because the SGC has Manual dial, they also get certain liberties, like shutting down the gate with something inside. A dhd-gate wouldn't be able to do that because everything's automatic.
well, there you go. understand it, or don't.

Yeah I get, but here is the screenshot as promised from COTG,
disclaimer: I know it ain't mine, itz showtime's yada yada, just borrowing it for point of discussion .........

Note, the big one in the middle is the 7th glyph, the PoO, note it isn't the PoO for Abydos ...........

What you have there is a blooper.
The video part of the screen has the inner ring on it. But no stargate other then Earths will make the inner ring spin. So that must be the earth gate on the screen. But even then A 7th symbol is not needed since it if just the PoO.

All they need to do from earth is dial the first 6 and then there own PoO. They can not have any other PoO on theres.

There are many things in the children of the gods and the movie that whould not make sence in the rest of the show. So I try not to think about them and focus on the other episodes.

I think I can help out the show's defence here: it could be he is showing them the symbols based on recorded video tape of the Abydos gate, which they do have. From the film, if nothing else... :freak4:
