If anyone has been to the movies lately, did you see the previews for The Time Machine?

Did you notice how MUCH the music in the preview sounds like the theme to Stargate?

That was the only thing I was paying attention to during the whole preview. At first it only sounded familiar, but then I was like, "WHOA! It's Stargate! No it isn't! It's The Time Machine!"

Yep it doesn't surprise me, some of the Stargate trailor theme tune has been lifted before for film trailors. I'm not 100% sure but I think the two trailors I remember it in were 'The Mummy' and 'The 13th Warrior' although I might be wrong - it was some time ago since I've seen the trailors for those films.

I haven't heard the music of the shows mentioned but the entire gould /tokra exchange parasite/symbiote seems to of been lifted from the Horror film "the kiss" and changed from film to series

Comments?

yes, yes, yes, yes, YEEEESSSS

i went to the cinema last night and i thought that at the time.

i think it is probably written by the same people

i.e. joel goldsmith/david arnold

The theme from the original movie was "borrowed" alot, too.

the whole CD from the original movie is incredibly good. I had someone ID it while I was playing it at my old theater during a load-in. I didn't think my boss would know it and wow it sounded good even on our ad-hock sound system. According to some circles, the music made the movie the hit that it was. So no wonder that someone would want to copy a part of the style.

Agreed. I bought it after I saw the movie.

Also if you have seen Independence day you will notice that the music is very similar

ex. the sound that the big spaceships make is the same as the one that the pyramid ship makes

but this is not a surprise because Stargate and Independence day have the same producers, that is why they are similar. ;)

Wow! There's a new preview for The Time Machine! Ok, I solved your little problem. What you heard on that trailer was not another version of the Stargate theme or another piece of music that sounds like the Stargate them. You heard one of The Stargate themes. I've not actually saw the trailer yet identify the actual them used. Most companies I've heard seem to use the second last track on the soundtrack called, "Kasuf Returns" Either the beginning of the track is good or then end just as good. The beginning of the track is the general uplifting theme that we all know from Stargate. the end is the powerful choral piece that leads up to the end of the vile one RA.

You may not know this, but most Studios pay copyright fees to other studios or to whomever own the music to be used in their own trailers. To name but a few, Stargate has been used in trailers such as Warriors of Virtue (starring Teryl Rothery incidently), Dungeosn and Dragons, Waterworld, The Man in The iron Mask, Indepndence Day, Jumanji. The Mummy, Dragonheart, Mighty Joe Young, Volcano, Lost in Space, Mission to Mars, Titan A.E., Deep Rising and the trailer you just saw the other night in the cinema, The Time machine. It's common practive to do this. The original Stargate Trailer used music from Bram Stokers Dracula and and that's all. For more information go to this site:

Here you will see the list of music used in the trailer for the Time Machine.

Yes, I did notice this when I went to see The Lord of the Rings. I was so pissed they'd used it my friend had to calm me down because I was disturbing the whole audiance!!!!!!

This purchasing of music was something I wasn't aware of. I guess it makes sense if that when the trailer is produced the music for the movie is not complete.

Oh and the "same" producer thing I don't think is true. IIRC the two sets of producers met and wheeled and dealed for the rights to do a TV version of Stargate. But they are different folks I thought.

Oh and did you see what else was "lifted," "borrowed" or "stolen" from SG in LOTR? Making up languages. For LOTR the base was a bit more Celtic than Egyptian but they crafted a few languages for the movie.

You may also recall when Kevin Costner's version of "Robin Hood" came out on film, a particular song from its soundtrack was used for many movies' trailors.

If you listed to the "lifted" themes, it is usually the uplifting, herioc and patriotic portion of the theme that is being used, AND which has already been heard over and over again by the public in another successful movie.

Yeah, but lotr's was written waaay before SG, and it was based on finnish, whereas SG is based on Ancient Egyptian.

Why were you pissed Maconeill2001? Everytime I hear the music from Stargate I'm like, yeah, whoohoo coz It's such a great theme and was glad that they decided to use it to enhance their trailer.

With regards to the producers idea, you are probably correct in your line of thought. Most likely Centropolis used the same sound effects company or just the same sound effect for the ships in both films. You get a lot of connections in the Centropolis movies. The actor who played General West is known as Leon Rippy who is a veteran of Centropolis films. He's been in Moon 44, Universal Soldier, Stargate, The Thirteenth Floor, TV series: The Visitor and The Patriot.

Why was I pissed ??? Really, I don,t know!! Maybe pissed is not the word. I was shocked, surprised, and frankly, I over reacted... everyone in the theater most have heard me... And they were all looking at me strangly... Well, maybe I shouldn't have said " Hey! They stole Stargate theme!!!!" just that loud... Also, Stargate isn't really popular where I live. And the rare ones who do watch it, watch the French version which is " La porte des étoiles", therefore, they don,t know what Stargate is...

And I was a little angry because I think the trailer of that movie wasn't worth having such a great theme... Yes, I am conservative and possessive....

They never stole the theme man. If Dreamworks stole the Stargate theme then they'd get sued. The payed to use the theme in their trailer. You should get used it it. I listen to lots of movie soundtracks and so when I see trailers all the time I hear music from other films. And Stargate is so great that it is used a lot. I feel happy when this happens. It's like the theme tune has great respect from the movie world. It's a top choon.
