SG1 ID signal

Hey,

Was just watching stargate (bane), and noticed something that I have seen before, and that is the SGC computers receiving SG1's ID signal before the wormhole is established.

This isn't really important to the enjoyment of stargate, but I was wondering if it is a common mistake they have made or if it is intentional. If it is intentional my question is how can the stargate receive the ID signal before there is a wormhole.

Seems in some episodes it is possible and in others you need an active wormhole to send any transmissions.

Hrm thats a good question , i didn't notice that when i watched the episode but i only watched it once when i brought it on dvd but now that you mentioned it i'm gonna go home and watch it again and look for the same thing

While they can make mistakes, I'm wondering what your seeing. Is it the GDO signal they're announcing or just that there's a wormhole connecting? I think they're able to know when the 'Gate is connecting through sensors or power consumpsion, etc. but the implications in the majority of situations was that the wormhole had to be open for radio transmissions. A delightful excuse to watch my tapes again.

GDO

Nope its the GDO......

The Stagate is in the process of engaging the chevrons, the women then says "incoming wormhole, sir its SG1)

Then you see the seventh chevron lock and the wormhole is established.

by the way its 29mins and 30 seconds into bane, It has only every happened a couple of times in all the episodes I have seen

Did it only happen in "Bane" or did it happen in other episodes too?

I have seen it once or twice before, it also happens in "Spirits" the women comes in and says SG11 is returning before the gate has even finished dialing.

In later episodes I have seen them mention there needs to be an active wormhole for radio transmissions.

Either way if its not a mistake, I wonder how a signal can be received without an active wormhole.

Not trying to pick holes just inquisitive :)

Okay. I haven't checked the ep, but here goes:

You say a few chevrons were engaged? The computer displays the address on most incoming wormholes, right? In Bane it's implied that SG-1 had just gone through. For sure the guys in the control room knew where they were sending SG-1 to. So when a partial address comes in from where they just were sent, it's gotta be SG-1 coming back because of trouble.

"Whadaya think, sirs?"

sounds resonable, but unfortunatly was not the case :(.

Before she says incoming wormhole, they recieve SG1's GDO signal response code, and due to the cool freeze frame DVD gives you I was even able to get this information displayed on the SGC Computers....

Accept
Signal Recognised
SG1 O'NIELL 32-000-0

you then see the last chevron lock and the wormhole opens.

sounds to me like one of those common "gate" mistakes - unless you really watch out for them the majority are missed.

I don't remember it in "Bane" but I'll bet it won't be the last - Meli's Nitpicker site is great for nitpicking like this ....
